Public Consultation on Nephrops FMPs

The Scottish Government has now launched a public consultation on West Coast of Scotland Nephrops and North Sea Nephrops FMPs.

These two plans have been jointly prepared by the following UK fisheries authorities - Scottish Government, Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs and the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs in Northern Ireland - in collaboration with the Sea Fish Industry Authority (Seafish), as well as with input from industry, scientists, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and Statutory Nature Conservation Bodies (SNCB). The consultation will run for 12 weeks - from 25 March 2026 to 17 June 2026. Stakeholders can submit consultation responses through an online questionnaire, or by email or post as outlined on the consultation page. We will be looking to hold a number of online sessions with stakeholders between end of May/beginning of June.

Following the consultation, responses will be analysed and the FMPs amended before publication later in 2026. This is an important opportunity to help shape the future of Nephrops fisheries management across the UK.

Join us for a ramble along the River Coquet on Friday 12th June, to celebrate Northumberland's Marine Protected Areas, spot some eiders and fluffy ducklings, and learn how you can help us better protect our iconic sea ducks. Everyone is welcome!

The theme for this year's is Marine Protected Areas, so we are teaming up with Space for Shorebirds and RSPB for a guided walk to celebrate the Berwick to St Mary's Marine Conservation Zone, AKA the Cuddy Duck MCZ!

The Association of IFCAs is seeking an experienced and dynamic Training Manager to lead the development and delivery of a national training programme supporting Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authorities across England.

This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in strengthening compliance and enforcement capability, ensuring IFCA officers are equipped with the skills, knowledge and confidence to protect our marine environment.

🌊 World Oceans Day 2026 🌊
Today, the Association of IFCAs launch their latest film, Conserve, exploring how IFCAs work to protect sensitive species and habitats in England’s inshore Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), while ensuring sustainable fisheries can thrive.

The IFCAs, across 10 districts, have a responsibility to manage fishing activity within MPAs to ensure the conservation objectives of those sites are met.

The film highlights the IFCAs approach to MPA management:
- Backed by strong high-resolution data & local knowledge
- Collaborative decision-making, and meeting the MPA’s conservation needs
- Adaptive to changing conditions and new evidence

Produced by Mindfully Wired, Conserve follows the recently released IFCA film series Lead, Champion and Protect, continuing to showcase the work and efforts of IFCA officers and members to safeguard our marine environment and coastal communities.
