Blyth Sports Centre has expanded and developed over the last 50 years into a superb multi-use centre, including extensive refurbishment between 2019-2021. Blyth Sports Centre is home to a 25m Swimming Pool, Learner Pool, Sauna, Steam, Spa, 8 Court Sports Hall, Gym, Soft Play, Cafe, Meeting Room, Cycling Studio, Exercise Studioโ€™s and the Councilโ€™s Learning Skills service.

The back squat is one of the BEST exercises for building:
๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ Lower body strength
๐Ÿ‘ Glutes
๐Ÿ”ฅ Quads
๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ Core stability

โœ… What good form should look like:
โ€ข Bar sitting securely across upper back
โ€ข Feet around shoulder width apart
โ€ข Brace your core before every rep
โ€ข Chest lifted with a neutral spine
โ€ข Hips and knees bend together
โ€ข Knees track over toes
โ€ข Hit depth YOU can control
โ€ข Drive through the full foot to stand up

โŒ Common mistakes:
โ€ข Knees collapsing inwards
โ€ข Heels lifting off the floor
โ€ข Losing tension at the bottom
โ€ข Folding forwards excessively
โ€ข Looking too far up or down
โ€ข Rushing reps
โ€ข Squatting without bracing properly

Think of it like this:

Say hello to Mitch ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ

Mitch is one of the newer members of the team, but heโ€™s actually worked with us before โ€” so some of you may already recognise him! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ

Outside of the gym, Mitch is also part of the local swim club ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Youโ€™ll usually find him in the gym on Thursdays leading our Functional Training sessions, helping members improve strength, fitness, and overall conditioning ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Weโ€™ve got NEW wall ball equipment in the gym ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ

Wall balls are a full body movement that combine:
๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ Legs
๐Ÿ”ฅ Core
๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ Shoulders
โค๏ธ Cardio & conditioning

โœ… How to do a wall ball:
โ€ข Hold the ball at chest height
โ€ข Feet around shoulder width apart
โ€ข Squat down keeping chest lifted
โ€ข Drive up explosively through the legs
โ€ข Throw the ball towards the target/wall
โ€ข Catch softly and flow straight into the next rep
