🚨 **Joint Training Exercise – Port of Blyth** 🌊🚤

On Tuesday night, we were joined by Blyth Coastguard Rescue Team for a joint training exercise at the Port of Blyth

Both our lifeboats responded to a simulated **two-casualty incident**, looking for ways to improve how we work together and deal with **unexpected challenges**.

🤝 Exercises like this help ensure we're ready to work seamlessly together when a real emergency occurs.

A big thank you to everyone who took part! 👏

Welcome aboard Helene!! 🧡 🌊🚤

We’re delighted to welcome a new trainee crew member to Blyth Lifeboat Station. Helene comes from an engineering background but shares the same motivation: to help save lives at sea.
Her training pathway blends Blyth-based training in towing, mooring and berthing, casualty care, navigation and local area knowledge, with sea survival at RNLI College, Poole—preparing Helene to respond 24/7.

Please join us in wishing Helene the very best as she starts her lifesaving journey. We’re proud to have you as part of our One Crew — volunteers, shore crew, fundraisers and supporters all pulling together for the same goal... Saving Lives at Sea.

Drop Helene a warm welcome (or tag and embarrass her) in the comments below 😉👇

🚨 SERVICE CALL @ 02:53 | St Mary’s Island

In the early hours of Thursday 13 August, our volunteer lifeboat crews were paged by Humber Coastguard at 2.53am following reports of two people cut off by the tide at St Mary’s Island.

The two casualties had stayed on the island to watch the eclipse and, having lost track of time, found themselves unable to safely make their way back across the causeway. Both were beginning to suffer from the cold.

Within minutes, Blyth RNLI’s Atlantic 85 and D-class lifeboats were launched and making their way to the scene.

With support from our Atlantic 85, the D-class - ideally suited to operating in the shallow, rocky conditions around the island - made its way in to reach the casualties. Our volunteer crew located both people, brought them safely aboard the D-class and transferred them ashore, where members of Blyth Coastguard Rescue Team were waiting to provide further assistance.

👏 We’d also like to give a special mention to Jonny, one of our volunteer crew members, who completed his very first service call. Congratulations, Jonny!

🌊 Tide safety: It can be surprisingly easy to lose track of time when enjoying the coast. Always check the tide times before crossing a tidal causeway and make sure you leave plenty of time to return safely.

Top tip: Once you’ve checked when the tide is coming in, set an alarm on your phone as an extra reminder. A simple alarm could prevent you from becoming cut off.

Be creative. Be part of the crew. Help save lives at sea, one post at a time.you help tell the story of Blyth Lifeboat Station?

We’re looking for a volunteer Social Media Officer to join the team at RNLI Blyth.

This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who loves content, storytelling, photography, reels, local community, and making social media actually mean something.

At Blyth Lifeboat Station, our volunteers launch to save lives at sea. But behind every launch, training night, fundraising event, water safety message and community moment, there’s a story that needs to be shared.

That’s where you come in.

As our Social Media Officer, you’ll help bring the station to life online by creating engaging posts, sharing updates, celebrating our volunteers, promoting safety messages, and helping the local community feel connected to the work of the RNLI.

You don’t need to be lifeboat crew. You don’t need maritime experience. You just need creativity, enthusiasm, good judgement, and a passion for making a real impact.

This role could be perfect for someone who:

📸 Loves creating content
🎥 Enjoys reels, photos, stories and social media trends
💬 Has a way with words
🌊 Cares about the local community
🧡 Wants to support a lifesaving charity
🚤 Would love to be part of the team behind the crew

Your posts could help recruit new volunteers, share vital water safety advice, support fundraising, and show people what really happens behind the doors of Blyth Lifeboat Station.

Blyth Lifeboat Station has been saving lives since 1826 and today operates both a D class and Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat. This is your chance to help tell the next chapter of that story.

🌊 Celebrating 25 Years of RNLI Lifeguards! 🌊

Did you know that RNLI lifeguards have been keeping beachgoers safe for 25 years?

To mark this incredible milestone, the crew here at Blyth wanted to celebrate by surprising our amazing Whitley Bay RNLI lifeguards with some treats and snacks, while taking the time to personally thank them for everything they do. So we decorated our lifeboat with bunting, threw in a waterproof bag full of treats and snacks, and made a surprise visit to the two lifeguard stations in Whitley Bay yesterday.

Lifeguards and lifeboat crews are truly all part of one crew, working side-by-side to save lives at sea. Everyone at Blyth is incredibly grateful for their unwavering service, vigilance, and dedication every single day on the coast.
