School-aged children will be offered a flu vaccine at school from 1 September. For most children, this is a quick and painless nasal spray that helps protect them, and those around them, from flu this winter.

Newquay Minor Injury Unit will be open over the bank holiday weekend. Saturday 29, Sunday 30, and Monday 31 August, 9am to 5pm. However, throughout September, we will not have enough specialist clinicians to provide a safe, reliable service. As a result, we have taken the difficult decision to extend the previous temporary closure. The rest of the hospital will remain open as normal.

Patient safety is our top priority. In recent months, vacancies and sickness have led to short notice changes to the opening hours. After a careful review, we believe a planned temporary closure is the safest option.

We are actively recruiting specialist practitioners. A new clinical lead is due to join us next month. These are important steps in strengthening the service and supporting a phased reopening as soon as it is safe to do so. Recruitment has been ongoing for several months and remains a priority.

We know how important the unit is to local people and visitors. We are sorry for the disruption this temporary closure will cause. We remain committed to reopening the service as soon as it is safe and sustainable to do so.

During the closure, people can continue to access other minor injury units. This includes units in St Austell, Bodmin and Camborne Redruth. Visit our live opening and waiting times: https://www.cornwallft.nhs.uk/miu-waiting-times

Our current plan is to reopen the unit from 5 October 2026. This will initially be on reduced days, but at times when the unit is busiest. This will allow us to induct new staff while we continue to recruit.
