✨ After 18 months, more than 80,000 visitors and international recognition, The Bognor Regis Time Portal has now closed as planned.

Every single day, rain or shine, people of all ages and backgrounds stepped through the portal to meet Victorian bathing woman and local heroine Mary Wheatland.

Along the way there were many special moments, from Mary’s relatives meeting for the first time, to international award recognition, and BBC TV, radio and online coverage. Above all, the project boosted tourism and created real pride in Bognor Regis.

The portal has now been carefully dismantled by Making It Out, the charity that built it, with all materials to be reused in future projects as part of our commitment to sustainability.

Thank you to everyone who visited and supported the project, and to the incredible team, partners and funders who made it possible. 💙

The Bognor Regis Time Portal closes on 30 September 2025.

More than 80,000 people have already experienced Victorian Bognor Regis by stepping through the AR time portal on the seafront.

Do not miss your chance to come face to face with local heroine Mary Wheatland before the portal disappears.

🎉 Celebrating one year of the Bognor Regis Time Portal! 🕰️

Over 58,000 visitors have stepped into the past, with people using the portal every single day, rain or shine! ☀️🌧️

It's been amazing to see so many of you connect with this piece of history, and a privilege to share Mary Wheatland's story when we visited local primary schools. 📚

We’re also proud that the portal was shortlisted for the Sussex by the Sea Tourism Award and reached the finals of the Auggie Awards in Los Angeles, bringing international recognition to Bognor Regis. 🌍✨

Huge thanks to Arts Council England for funding the project with help from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund made possible by Arun District Council and Bognor Regis BID.

The portal runs until the end of September 2025. If you haven’t visited yet, now’s the time! 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️

🌟 Exciting news! The Bognor Regis Time Portal has now been opened over 20,000 times! 🎉

With many visitors enjoying the experience in pairs or groups, we estimate that over 50,000 people have stepped back in time to explore Victorian Bognor Regis using augmented reality. The response has been incredible, and the numbers keep growing! 🕰️✨

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the project—from our amazing collaborators to all the visitors who’ve shared their experiences. 🙏

Mary had a fantastic time visiting St Mary's Catholic Primary School in Bognor Regis! What a pleasure to meet 180 pupils and all of them had visited the time portal - fantastic to see the students learning about local history.
