Car park closure for improvement work at Bersted Brooks - due to improvement work, the car park will be closed on 3 September for approximately eight to nine weeks. There will be no access to the car park during this time.

In preparation for the work, vegetation clearance is needed to provide access for the contractors to do drainage work.

In addition, work is also planned to clean and unblock water drainage pipes by removing built-up mud and sediment.

National Beach Day is celebrated each year on August 30, 2026 - a day that encourages people to enjoy the natural beauty of coastal areas while promoting environmental awareness and clean-up efforts.

Arun District is home to around 15 miles of beautiful coastline, stretching across popular seaside destinations including Littlehampton, Bognor Regis, Middleton-on-Sea, Felpham, Climping and Elmer. From award-winning beaches and family-friendly seafronts to quieter stretches of coastline and nature-rich shorelines, Arun's beaches attract residents and visitors from across the region and beyond.

Refuse, recycling and food waste collection dates are not affected by the bank holiday weekend, so please put your bins out as normal on your usual collection day.

But garden waste collection will be behind a day over the bank holiday weekend, and back to normal the following collection date.

Want an easy way to keep track of your collections? Download the free Arun District Council app and set up bin collection notifications. You'll receive handy reminders straight to your phone and can check your collection dates anytime. https://www.arun.gov.uk/arun-mobile-app/

Nobody wants uninvited dinner guests.

Your outdoor food waste bin has a lockable lid to help keep food waste secure and reduce smells that may attract foxes or other pests. If lids are closed properly and food waste is placed in the food waste bin, there should be no extra attraction for vermin.

Food waste is collected every week, helping to keep things fresh and avoid lingering smells, especially during warmer weather.

A few simple habits can also help keep pests away:
- Keep bin and caddy lids closed properly
- Put all food waste into your lockable food waste bin
- Wrap particularly smelly food waste in newspaper or liners before putting it in the caddy
- Do not leave food waste uncovered indoors
- Keep bins out of direct sunlight where possible
- Give your bins and caddies a regular clean with hot water or disinfectant

Follow these tips and your bins should stay pest free and smelling fresher.

Habitat banks come with a long term commitment: each site must be protected and managed for at least 30 years. That means regular monitoring, ongoing maintenance, and expert ecological support to ensure the habitats continue to improve.

For residents, this means greater certainty that local green spaces will be cared for well into the future. Habitat banking helps safeguard the places we value, ensuring they remain healthy, accessible, and full of life for decades to come.
