On the beach between Bognor Regis and Aldwick lies the wreck of a Floating Pontoon which formed part of the Mulberry Floating harbours used by the Allies to invade the French coast on D-Day 6 June 1944. Several sections broke free during stormy weather on 04 June 1944, the day before they were due to be floated across the channel to Arromanches in Normandy. This particular section of Mulberry, which had been intended to form part of a floating roadway, was abandoned and did not make it across the Channel. It was washed up on the beach shortly after D-Day. It is clearly visible at low tide throughout the year.
