Update on My Nomination to the Boldon Community Association Management Committee
As promised to those who expressed interest, I wanted to provide a formal update regarding my application to serve as a representative on the Boldon Community Association Management Committee.
South Tyneside Council has the authority to nominate four representatives - either councillors or members of the public - to the committee. I submitted my name for consideration, alongside nominations from the Reform councillors for Boldon. It was my understanding that my fellow ward councillors supported my inclusion.
Unfortunately, my name did not appear on the final list of nominees presented on the evening. The four selected representatives were:
⢠Cllr Diamond (Reform, Boldon ward)
⢠Cllr Fox (Reform Boldon ward, from Simonside area)
⢠Ms Groom (Reform candidate, Hedworth Fellgate area)
⢠Miss J Taylor (local resident, Boldon)
During the meeting, I proposed an alternative arrangement, requesting to replace Ms Groom on the basis of my strong local connections and long-standing commitment to the Boldon community. With 47 years of continuous residency in Boldon, I have actively contributed through various voluntary roles, including:
⢠Volunteering at Boldon Cricket Club and Boldon Football Club
⢠Supporting Boldonās food bank collections and deliveries
⢠Founding the Boldon Community Group
⢠Organising numerous family and community events over many years
I remain deeply committed to supporting a positive and progressive Community Association that serves all residents, families, and children in the area.
The matter proceeded to a vote by show of hands. While some Reform councillors did support my nomination, my fellow Boldon ward councillors (Cllr Diamond and Cllr Fox) did not raise their hands in favour. I respect that this is the nature of party politics and hold no personal ill will towards them. I am grateful to those councillors, from Reform and other parties, who did offer their support.
As quoted by the Mayor in his opening remarks: āIf you donāt succeed, try and try again.ā
I will now continue as a standard (non-committee) member of the Boldon Community Association. In this capacity, I will observe and assess the contributions made by the nominated representatives and the wider committee. I remain hopeful that this was simply a misunderstanding and look forward to continuing my efforts to support the local community.
Thank you to all residents who have shown interest and support in this matter.
