Bolton's Egypt Spring Study Day 2026

Only one week to go until our next Bolton's Egypt Study Day, where you can get hands-on with ancient history, guided by some of the UK's leading Egyptological experts!
In this "Animals in Ancient Egyptian Religion" Study Day experts include:

- Egyptologist and Curator of Egypt and Sudan at Manchester Museum, Dr Campbell Price
- Egyptologist and animal mummy expert, Dr Lidija McKnight
- Bolton Curator and Natural Historian, Lauren Field
- Bolton Curator and Egyptologist, Ian Trumble
In a series of talks and interactive hands-on workshops they will help you explore why animals were central to ancient Egyptian belief. You will learn why they were revered as sacred beings, embodying divine power, but also played essential social and practical roles in everything from food and labour to fertility and protection. You will explore the animals encountered by the ancient Egyptians, how they were featured in daily life, and how they were incorporated into the ancient Egyptian belief system of life, death and the afterlife.
The day will end with drinks and food in the Bolton's Egypt galleries with a chance to chat the the experts in a relaxed environment.
