If you are choosing an activity to invest in for your little one, swimming deserves a place near the top of your list.

It gives children opportunities to build coordination, practise listening, explore movement and grow in confidence. It’s precious time together, with your encouragement helping them feel secure as they try something new. 💦

Something we hear a lot from parents is how much they look forward to their weekly swim session, not just for their little one, but for themselves. There is something about being in warm water together, surrounded by familiar faces and friendly voices, that makes it feel like a genuinely social part of the week rather than just another activity.

Could you be our next baby swimming teacher? 💦

We are looking for someone warm, enthusiastic and confident with little ones to join The Splash Academy team in Bolton.

This is a part-time role that can fit around the job you are doing now. If you are new to baby swimming, Leisure Qualifications and Training are running a training course that you can join, so you don’t need to be qualified already. The Splash Academy team will support your learning journey.

You will help babies and parents feel comfortable in the water while supporting those precious first steps towards swimming confidence.

Something worth thinking about before your next lesson: have you introduced yourself to another parent in the water?

It sounds simple, but the social side of swimming classes is something that genuinely surprised a lot of families when they first joined us. Parents arrive a little unsure, focused on their little one, and then somewhere between the songs and the splashing, they realise they are surrounded by people going through exactly the same thing.

That shared experience is worth leaning into. Say hello before the lesson. Ask how long they have been coming. You might find a new familiar face that makes the weekly routine feel even more settled for you and your child.

Children pick up on calm, connected energy. When you feel comfortable in the space, they feel it too.

Most people think of swimming lessons as a children's activity, and the parent is just there to hold on. That is not how we see it at all.

When parents get into the water with their little ones, something shifts. The pool becomes a shared space, not a lesson room. Children read their parents constantly, and when a parent is relaxed and engaged, the child feels it. That sense of calm travels directly from your arms into theirs.

What we have seen, again and again, is that the social experience of being in the water together is actually part of what makes children progress. It is not separate from the learning. It is central to it. The bond being built in that warm water, the eye contact, the laughter, the gentle encouragement, all of it is doing quiet, important work.

Swimming with your child is not just something you attend. It is something you share.
