🚨 Labour's new planning rules make it easier to get planning permission near well-connected train stations. This change means that Potters Bar, Bushey, Radlett, Elstree and Borehamwood will be easier to build on than other places in the country.

🧱 Over 200 acres of our green belt is at risk. And this Labour government is doing all it can to help developers bulldoze it.

A statement by Cllr Lynette Sullivan, Leader of the Conservative Group 👇

“A deeply concerning incident involving the Leader of Hertsmere Council, with a death threat and suspected packages being sent to him.

I’m very pleased that, following the swift and professional response from the emergency services, the packages were found to be safe and that nobody was harmed.

We know that the police will be investigating both the death threats and the circumstances surrounding the packages being considered suspicious, and I hope that investigation can establish exactly what happened.

Whatever our political differences, there is simply no place for threats or intimidation in public life. Councillors and their families should be able to go about their lives without fear.

My thanks to all the emergency services involved for their prompt and professional response.”

A MESSAGE TO THE LEADER OF Hertsmere BOROUGH COUNCIL - Cllr Jeremy Newmark

Cllr Lynette Sullivan, Leader of the Hertsmere Conservative Group, has issued a direct appeal to Council Leader Cllr Jeremy Newmark to act now on the growing number of HMOs across Hertsmere.

With nine HMO applications appearing on last week’s planning list alone, Councillor Lynette Sullivan is calling for an Immediate Article 4 Direction and an Additional HMO Licensing Scheme.

Residents deserve safe, good-quality housing, but communities also deserve protection from the over-concentration of HMOs.

May 2027 is too late. We need action now.

We know that the proliferation of Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) across Hertsmere is a huge issue. It is fundamentally changing the face of our communities and we are losing so many family homes.

💪 Working with local residents, we have fought hard to get the Council to do something. But every step of the way, Labour have been obstructive.

✅ It was great to discuss this issue with Sir James Cleverly, who assured us that the national Conservative Party takes this issue seriously.

⏭️ If the Conservatives are back in government, they will act to prevent the expansion of more HMOs against the will of communities and keep our local areas great places to live.

🧹 Local Conservatives brought a motion to Full Council back in March 2026 proposing higher fines for fly-tipping. This was proposed by Cllr Alex Clarkson (Borehamwood Hillside) and seconded by Cllr Lucy Selby Selby (Aldenham East). Now, even the Labour Government agrees.

✅ We know what a scourge on our area fly-tipping is. Hertsmere Borough Council now has more powers to crackdown on this offence, and we’ll be holding them to account to ensure they use these.

⏭️ We’re also calling for a “Wall of Shame” to increase the deterrence on offenders, as well as bringing a regular fly-tipping information report to Cabinet detailing how many fines are being issued.

Last night, after nearly three wonderful years, I stood down as Chairman of Hertsmere Conservatives
We held our AGM with Oliver Dowden and Guest Speaker Richard Fuller MP Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury

It's hard to believe how quickly the time has passed. Looking back, what a journey it has been. We've fought a General Election, County Council elections and at least four by elections and, thanks to the dedication of so many incredible people, we've celebrated victory in every one of them.

When I became Chairman, I simply wanted to leave the Association in a better place than I found it. I sincerely hope I've done that. None of it would have been possible without the support, friendship and hard work of our fantastic members, councillors, campaign teams and volunteers. Thank you all for your encouragement, loyalty and commitment. It has meant more to me than you will ever know.

I couldn't be happier to hand over to Michelle Calcutt She is a passionate, hardworking Conservative, and I know she will be an outstanding Chairman who will lead Hertsmere Conservatives from strength to strength.

While one chapter closes, another begins. I'm proud of everything we've achieved together, excited for what comes next, and delighted to see a new generation taking the Association forward.

Thank you for giving me the privilege of serving as your Chairman. It's been an experience I'll always treasure.

🥇 AIM Pubs and the Haslam family have done an amazing job thoughtfully restoring the venue to create a welcome space for the local community and visitors to Elstree.

🏡 With roots dating back centuries, The Plough has long been part of the fabric of Elstree village life.

✅ Today, it continues that tradition

❌ Bu thanks to Labour, it has been hit by business rates hikes and the increases in Employers’ National Insurance and the National Living Wage.
