Two suspected shoplifters are in custody after being arrested in last night.

A 40 year old man, of no fixed abode, was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting from Lidl yesterday, shoplifting from B&M on Sunday and going equipped.

A 34 year old, from Elstree, was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting from Lidl yesterday.

The arrests came about after an off-duty neighbourhood police officer spotted the pair 👍

🚨 A vehicle theft suspect has been arrested in

Officers from the Neighbourhood Policing Team received a report of a vehicle stolen from the Tesco car park on 📍 Mutton Lane on Wednesday (17 June).

Following enquiries, the stolen vehicle was located on 📍 Cherry Tree Lane. While waiting for the victim to arrive, officers spotted the suspect. With assistance from the Intervention Team, he was arrested in 📍 Ashwood Road shortly after.

A search of an address led to the recovery of items linked to the theft, including a pair of sunglasses taken from the vehicle.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, theft from a motor vehicle and possession of cannabis. He is now on bail pending further enquiries.

On Tuesday, officers from the Neighbourhood Policing Team responded to reports of a child using a catapult in Meadow Park .

Upon arrival, officers quickly identified the individual involved after a child was struck.

The situation was dealt with swiftly, and a referral has been made to CYP (Children & Young People services) to progress the investigation and provide appropriate support.

A man has been found guilty of murder following a fatal stabbing in Bushey.

Dequarn Williams, aged 26, of Sancroft Close in north-west London, was found guilty of murdering Jeyanthan Ramachanthran at St Albans Crown Court today (Wednesday 17 June).

The court heard how emergency services were called to reports of a stabbing just after 11.30pm on Saturday 29 November 2025 outside the Vu Lounge in Bushey.

Officers and paramedics arrived at the scene and found 32-year-old Jeyanthan with serious injuries. He was taken to hospital for treatment but sadly died a short time later.

A murder investigation was subsequently launched by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit.

Officers arrested Williams the following day (Sunday 30 November) as he had left the scene prior to police arrival.

A woman aged in her 30s was also arrested the following day on suspicion of assisting an offender. Following an investigation, she faced no further action.

Detective Inspector Lee Martin, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: “Our thoughts remain firmly with Jeyanthan’s family and friends, who have shown immense dignity throughout what has been an incredibly difficult time.

“I’d also like to thank the members of the public who assisted with our enquiries at the time. We now look towards sentencing which is taking place next Monday 22 June.”

🚨 New Community Safety and Engagement Boards launched across Hertfordshire 🚨

We are introducing 10 new Community Safety and Engagement Boards (CSEBs), aiming to capture voices from all local communities on policing and crime in their area.

Officially launching as part of , the boards will meet quarterly in every district and borough, bringing together community advisors, police officers, and partner organisations.

👥 Why it matters

CSEBs are all about listening, collaboration, and action. They will:
✅ Give communities a platform to share experiences of policing and crime
✅ Highlight emerging concerns and local tensions
✅ Help tackle crime and anti-social behaviour
✅ Shape local policing priorities
✅ Ensure policing is fair, inclusive, and representative.

Community Advisors are key trusted contacts in the community that officers can make contact with. They play a key role in helping police better understand the needs of our diverse communities.

🗣️ Superintendent Kash Hussain said:

“Our Community Advisors are an invaluable part of policing in Hertfordshire, helping us to better understand the communities we serve and respond to their needs. These boards will ensure there is a clear and consistent forum at a local level where community voices can be heard, concerns can be shared, and solutions can be shaped together.”

📍 Some boards are already up and running, with all areas launching by July.

👮 Thank you to everybody who stopped by our crime prevention stall in yesterday.

Officers from the Neighbourhood Policing Team ran a stall outside 📍 Tesco and spoke to more than 40 shoppers on the following matters:

- Anti-social behaviour
- Burglary
- Fraud
- Spiking

Multiple freebies were handed out and people were particularly pleased with the card defenders. These handy devices help to stop your card from being cloned.

📸👮 This week we’ll be highlighting the important work conducted by our Neighbourhood Policing Team. Here’s what some of the team got up to across the weekend….

• A call came in reporting a theft of a motor vehicle. Three suspects were located and arrested in Elstree Way . The vehicle was recovered too.
• A call was received reporting that a teenager was in Meadow Park with a knife. Officers located the teenager and conducted a search. The item was found to be a kick stand from a bike. The teenager was taken home to his parents and we gave words of advice.
• PCSOs Cheryll Lavell and Graham Tippett attended Carnival at Elm Court. This was a great day with a fabulous turn out of residents - not only local but from other nearby towns too. Young ones enjoyed sitting in the police car and trying on the uniform!
• Whilst at the event, we were approached by a couple of people who reported possible drug dealing at the top of the field. Officers attended the location and two people were searched. One was found to be in possession of cannabis and was subsequently issued with a community resolution.
• Just as we were leaving the event, a local resident made us aware of a car that they believed was possibly stolen. We checked the vehicle and were pleased to report back that it was not stolen.
• PCSOs Karen Gregson and Tommy Lee conducted patrols as part of the initiative in Watling Street and Shenley Road and Leeming Road
• During these patrols, we conducted a business crime survey on Herts Connected with a local convenience store. We discussed shoplifting, people getting angry when asked for ID and age restricted sales. We offered to sign them up to HC Business Watch.
• We also welcomed some Sikh residents who were new to the area and gave reassurance that everybody is welcome in Hertsmere.
• Words of advice were given to a moped delivery driver who was encroaching into a disabled parking space.
• PCSO Tommy Lee carried out bike patrols in the rural areas, chatting to dog walkers and providing a reassuring presence and an opportunity to share any concerns.

We’d like to say a big thank you to everybody we spoke to across the weekend from those we met at events and patrols and to those who did the right thing by reporting concerns.

Today marks the start of which celebrates the work of local policing.

The team have started the week with a great result in 👏

A closure order has been executed at a property in 📍 Belford Road preventing a named individual from returning to the address for a period of 3 months following reports drugs and anti-social behaviour. This result was achieved through collaborative work with Borough Council and Clarion Housing, demonstrating a strong partnership approach to tackling local issues.

We hope this action sends a clear message to residents that we take reports of drug dealing and anti-social behaviour seriously and will take robust action where necessary.
