Borth is a full team right now but our flank teams at HM Coastguard Aberystwyth and Tywyn Coastguard Rescue Team/ Gwylwyr y Glannau Tywyn are recruiting for new team members if you’ve ever considered becoming a Coastguard Rescue Officer.

The Coastguard Rescue Service is made up of volunteers who carry out rescues and help those in distress around our coast.

Incident 42. August 2026

The team were called alongside HM Coastguard Aberystwyth in a joint emergency response with Police, Fire and Ambulance services at 0147 this morning.

A person had fallen around 30 feet onto the rocks by Tanybwlch. Paramedics were able to access him to provide initial treatment but needed our capability as rope rescue teams to safely recover them from the rocks below up to the awaiting ambulance.

We all wish him well and offer him a speedy recovery.

4 of our newest recruits across the 2 teams now have had their first real rope rescue experience and joint emergency response call-out. It is very different to a training session but they all played their part in enabling a safe and effective recovery.

Incident 41. August 2026

Sunday morning for the team began with a callout for a broken down vessel at Aberdyfi. We were tasked to Ynyslas to keep eyes on the craft from the shore and on Aberdyfi Lifeboat who were moving them to safety.

Should comms break down for any reason then we were able to report back to Holyhead coastguard what was happening.

All went smoothly and the lifeboat were able to tow and secure the vessel and assist the owner to shore safely.

Incident 40. August 2026

The team were called on Saturday at 1336 to an item on Ynyslas beach that was potentially ordnance.

The team were given a description of where the object was located, which took a while to find as although it was quite specific details, we found 4 different areas that matched. With the object eventually found, we photographed the item and then put a cordon in place to keep members of the public safe.

EOD assessed the photos and deemed the object was not ordnance so the team were able to stand down. A false alarm with good intent.

Thank you to the car park attendants at Ynyslas beach, who again assisted us today.

There are many items of ordnance washed up on the beaches locally. If you see anything you suspect to be ordnance DO NOT pick up or move it. Call 999, ask for coastguard and give as exact a location as you are able.

The team had a great time today at Borth RNLI Lifeboat Station’s open day.

Incidents 38 and 39. August 2026

A busy week all round for the team and it’s not over yet!

Incident 38
On Weds evening just before midnight we were called to another vehicle stuck on Ynyslas beach (2 in 24 hours!) but were stood down on our way to the scene as they reported to be out of the sand.

On Thursday evening we took part in our annual team assessment of our water skills as you can see in the photos attached. Luckily, the sea mist came in and cooled the beach down a little as those dry suits are hot!

Incident 39
On Friday at 1433 the team were called to assist a person in difficulty in the water reportedly swimming in the estuary between Ynyslas and Aberdyfi. Borth team were stood down as the incident was nearer the Aberdyfi side so Tywyn Coastguard Rescue Team/ Gwylwyr y Glannau Tywyn, Borth RNLI Lifeboat and Aberdyfi Lifeboat were all tasked to assist.

On Sunday 16th August, we’ve been invited to join in with Borth RNLI’s open day outside the lifeboat station from 1000-1400. We’ll be there with our truck and some of our kit, information to give out, stickers (of course!), and weather permitting we will put our air shelter up to show you, which serves as a base/hub we can use on a prolonged incident. Incident 37. August 2026

The team were called just before 3am today to reports of a vehicle stuck in the soft sand at Ynyslas beach. The occupants had followed sat nav directions to beach parking not realising in the dark that it was actually taking them onto the sand. A high tide of 4.7m had left the whole beach parking area very soft and they became stuck.

They’d attempted to self rescue and called for help from other sources earlier but been unable to access any. We went along to firstly ensure the occupants were ok, and then because the vehicle was accessible and not too deep into the sand we were able to also recover the vehicle and enable them to leave safely.

Incidents 35 and 36. August 2026

The team were called out at 1707 on Sunday evening to reports of ordnance at Ynyslas beach. The items were located and images sent to EODU for them to assess. Because there would be no daylight left due to the distance they had to travel, it was decided they would attend on Monday morning.

The team were called out again on Monday morning to meet with EODU to provide a secure cordon whilst they detonated the items.

Incident 34. July 2026

The team were called at 1808 on Wednesday evening to a vehicle stuck in the sand on Ynyslas beach.

A bit of digging, some sand mats and a bit of a push, freed the vehicle and its occupants were then able to go on their way.

Incident 33. July 2026

The team were tasked at 1328 on Sunday to assist with a large-scale multi-agency search operation to support HM Coastguard Aberystwyth and Gwylwyr Y Glannau Cei Newydd / HM Coastguard - New Quay Wales along with Dyfed-Powys Police and lifeboats. Our tasking was to search the coastline from Ynyslas to Wallog.

The search was undertaken in sections throughout the afternoon and we were stood down at 1830
