Cllr Barrie Pierpoint has presented funds of £2,200 each to five local causes, following a successful year of fundraising.
The former Mayor, supported by his fundraising committee, raised an impressive £11,000 - exceeding the £10,000 target they set at the start of his civic year.
Taking a fresh approach to fundraising, Cllr Pierpoint invited nominations from charities, community projects and good causes. From almost 40 nominations received, five were selected:
• St Botolph’s Boston Foodbank - Providing essential food support and free lunches for children during school holidays.
• Boston Men's Shed - A welcoming space for men to connect, share skills, and support one another.
• Centrepoint Outreach - Supporting vulnerable and homeless individuals across Boston.
• Headway Lincolnshire - Offering specialist counselling and support for those affected by brain injuries.
• Support Group for Adults with Autism - Creating community and resources for autistic adults.
Funds were raised through a combination of generous donations from residents, businesses and organisations, alongside a variety of events organised throughout the year. These included quiz nights, a collection at Asda, a race night, suppers and coffee mornings, a trip on the Boston Belle on the Wash and the Mayor’s Fun Fundraising night.
Cllr Pierpoint thanks everyone who contributed to fundraising in any way during his year as Mayor.
He said: “At the start of the year, we set ourselves the ambitious challenge of raising money for not just one, but five good causes, with a target of £10,000. To have exceeded that total is simply incredible and truly heartwarming.
“I am extremely grateful for every donation, no matter the size, and to everyone who attended events or gave up their time to help organise them.
“Each organisation has received £2,200, and they’ve all shared how much of an impact this funding will have for the people they support across the borough. Thank you for helping to make that difference.”
“Each good cause has received £2,200. They have each told me how much of a difference this is going to make for the people they support across the Borough.
“Thank you for the difference you have made to help other people.”
“Thank you also to the fundraising committee – this amount raised would not have been possible without you. You have done the people of Boston proud.”
The money raised for St Botolph’s Food Bank will help feed hundreds of children in the Borough this August by providing free lunches. It will support families who may otherwise struggle with the additional cost of food over the school holidays.
Boston Men’s Shed want to use the donation to make planters, benches and bird boxes to give to Boston community groups, charities and organisations.
Centrepoint Outreach is currently having a refurbishment at its premises on Red Lion Street. The funds will help pay for furniture and other items to support the homeless.
Headway Lincolnshire will use the money to support specialist brain injury counselling for people who have suffered a brain injury as well as their families. It will also support the running of the Boston Group.
Support Group for Adults with Autism will use the funds to help keep the group running and pay for activities for the group.
