We’re reaching out for help, advice and contact connections to explore how Inspired Equine Assisted Learning CIC (IdEAL) can work in co‑production with military charities and veteran support organisations to deliver impactful, evidence‑based equine‑assisted learning programmes.
Veterans often face complex transitions when leaving service, shifts in identity, emotional regulation, confidence and social reconnection. Many have spent years in environments where decisions were externally directed and structure was non‑negotiable. Effective engagement means offering clear purpose, predictable structure, and collaborative decision‑making that respects autonomy while still providing supportive guidance.
Evidence for animal‑assisted interventions is strong. Equine‑assisted programmes have been shown to reduce PTSD severity by 22.6%, with an average 12.46‑point reduction on PCL‑5 scores. Broader studies report anxiety reductions of up to 65%, and improvements in mood, attention and quality of life ranging from 15–45%. Structured weekly sessions of 31–60 minutes, common in dog‑assisted NHS programmes, show high attendance and sustained engagement, demonstrating how relational, animal‑based activities resonate with veteran communities.
IdEAL’s experiential model offers meaningful occupation, emotional regulation and confidence‑building through equine‑assisted learning. Horses provide immediate, non‑judgemental feedback that helps participants recognise tension, rebuild trust in themselves and reconnect socially. Co‑designed sessions can include purpose‑driven objectives, optional goal‑setting, and structured progression pathways aligned with veterans’ needs for clarity and predictability.
