TRAIN TRAVEL NEXT WEEK: I’ve just come off a call with the Department of Transport, the Police, rail providers and those on the ground at the site of the accident.
There will be sustained train disruption for the next week.
The train carriages need lifting off the line by crane which will require work on overhead lines, alongside the replacing of 600+ metres of train track damaged in the accident.
Bedford to Luton services will remain closed the rest of the week, and the coming weekend was already planned to be closed. There will be no services south of Bedford i.e Bedford to London St Pancras or Bedford and Luton. All trains that usually start of terminate at St Pancras will terminate at Bedford. Please see below what will be running.
Tickets will be accepted on alternative routes, but anyone who can avoid travelling - especially given the heat - is asked to please avoid train travel and work from home if possible.
Anyone whose loved ones were involved in the incident on Friday night, for example seeking to get personal belongings, or who need support from the British Red Cross, can call the dedicated line on: 03332125934
Thank you again to our emergency and Trainline services. My thoughts remain with all those still in hospital and the family of the train driver who lost his life.
