🔥 Bonfires are not a free pass to burn waste.

Only clean, dry, untreated wood, leaves, cardboard, or paper should be burned during traditional cultural events or small campfires.

❌ Never burn:
• Plastics
• Tyres
• Oils
• Treated wood
• Commercial waste

If in doubt, don’t burn it.

🚫 Burning waste harms people, wildlife, and the environment.

Smoke from burning plastics, tyres, oils, and other waste materials can release dangerous pollutants into the air we breathe.

There are safer, legal ways to dispose of waste at home and work.

Join us this week as we share practical advice to help protect our communities and keep our air clean.

Tragically, another life has been lost in the water in Lincolnshire.

Our thoughts and condolences are with their friends and family at this difficult time.

It’s a heart breaking reminder of the dangers of our waters here in the UK.

With the warm weather continuing this half term, our plea for everyone is to know your water safety.

Cold water shock can happen in seconds, and even the strongest of swimmers can still get into difficulty. The UK’s waters never get warm enough, even on the hottest of days, to stop this involuntary reaction.

If you’re struggling in the water, remember to FLOAT:
- Tilt your head back, submerging your ears.
- Relax and control your breathing.
- Move your hands and legs to help you stay afloat.
- Your legs may sink. That’s ok, everyone floats differently.
- Once calm, call for help

If you see someone struggling, avoid entering the water, tell them to FLOAT, call 999, and throw something that they can grab on to.

🔥 Smoke rises quickly, filling rooms from the ceiling down and standing up could put you in danger.

Practising your escape helps you react faster.

During a fire:
Stay low to avoid smoke
Check doors before opening
Close doors behind you if possible

🏢 Flats:
Know your evacuation plan
Never use lifts

🏠🏘️ Houses & HMOs:
Practise your main escape route
Make sure everyone knows what to do

👉 Run a fire drill and aim to get out in under 2 minutes.

Don’t have an escape plan? Get it sorted today.

🚗 KEEP YOUR CAR SAFE & RELIABLE

A well-maintained vehicle is especially important in rural areas where breakdown help may take longer.

✔ If it’s been a while since your last check over, here’s our tips:
Check tyre tread and pressure monthly
Test lights before every longer journey
Keep screen wash topped up (important for country roads)
Listen for changes in braking or steering
Don’t ignore warning lights on the dashboard

❄ Winter tip:
Check battery health and carry an ice scraper.

👨‍👩‍👧 Family tip:
A 10-minute monthly check together can improve safety and confidence.
