We are working with Dorset Police to keep our beaches safe and enjoyable for the vast majority of visitors who respect our area.

Let's be clear: warmer weather is no excuse for the pockets of behaviour we've seen in recent days and it is simply unacceptable.

We will not hesitate to act to keep our communities safe and our message is clear: if you're travelling to cause trouble, turn around and go home.

We are aware of the incident on Bournemouth beach this evening and are working closely with Dorset Police to support their response.

Incidents like this are taken extremely seriously, and we take a joined-up approach to antisocial behaviour and criminality, working alongside agencies to share intelligence, act quickly and target issues when they arise.

While the overwhelming majority of people enjoy our coastline responsibly, incidents do occur.

We’re grateful to the police for their swift action this evening and their dedication to keep residents, businesses and visitors safe.

BOURNEMOUTH | We are currently dealing with disorder involving a large number of people on Bournemouth beach in the area of Undercliff Drive.

Officers are at the scene, with assistance from the NPAS helicopter, and we are making arrests and working to disperse those involved.

It has been reported that officers have been assaulted and we would like to make it extremely clear that this behaviour will not be tolerated.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Callaghan, of Dorset Police, said: "I would like to thank the law-abiding members of the public for their support, but I am sending a clear message to those who are intent on causing harm or using violence to leave the vicinity.

"There will be a large police presence in the area while we seek to keep the public and our officers safe.

"We have commenced an investigation into the disorder and we will continue to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.

"I would also like to thank our officers for their professional and courageous actions during this incident."

Hundreds of thousands of visitors have enjoyed the best of our area over the Spring Bank Holiday. During busy beach days, behind the scenes a huge team effort is underway to keep the area clean and safe.

Thank you to our staff, the RNLI and emergency services including Dorset Police, who work tirelessly across our 15 miles of coastline. We are disappointed when some visitors don’t respect our spaces. We know how strongly many of you feel about that. We feel it too especially when our teams work so hard.

We issued almost 3,000 parking Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs), despite there being empty car parking spaces within walking distance of the beaches. We continue to call on the Government to give us the power to increase parking fines to help us tackle this problem 🚗❌

We have 250 bins along the promenade and our team begins collecting rubbish at 4am. Over the course of the season they will remove thousands of tons of waste from the beaches.

With more warm weather expected, we will continue to keep our area safe, welcoming and enjoyable 🏖️

“Everyone at BCP Council would like to congratulate AFC Bournemouth on qualifying for the Europa League for the first time in the club’s 127-year history.

“This remarkable achievement underlines the extraordinary progress the club has made, and we look forward to giving a warm welcome to supporters from across Europe to our area next season.”

We recently visited Emma at the Water Lily Café in Christchurch to hear how being a Safe Place is helping people feel more confident when out and about.

Safe Places are local shops, cafés and community venues that offer a welcoming space for anyone who feels vulnerable, lost or confused. 💛

With 175 Safe Places now across BCP, residents have more places than ever to turn to for reassurance and support.

Have you spotted the Safe Places logo around Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole? 👀

Look out for the Safe Places window sticker in participating venues - and check the link in the comments if your business would like to join the network.
