After multiple major flooding throughout the country, a need for more independent flood rescue teams has been identified. When major flood events occur our team may be asked to respond alongside other emergency services to anywhere across the UK and Europe. Second to this the team are also used locally

to assist in any other water based search and rescue efforts

We are a Non-Profit Organisation and will be continually fundraising for the training of team members and for the necessary equipment needed for water rescue. Wessex area is defined as Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire, Isle of Wight and Hampshire but can extend further and we are deployable to anywhere within the country.

Following a busy Year and lots more demand on our team we made the decision to start building a project to increase our vehicle fleet. Today we had the great news that the National Lottery are supporting this project. This vehicle will supplement the teams current van and be deployed into the community. It will be a purpose built welfare van which when required can be used as an incident command base. This is really exciting news.

Busy couple of weeks training. 10 new Asset Commanders, 8 new members and 10 of the team recertified.

The Team has been to Lee Valley today carrying out Water rescue CPD and training. These days are essential in keeping the teams skills current and fresh ready for when we get called out.

It was also perfect to test some on our recently qualified Asset Commanders who only passed the course on Saturday.

Our team could not run without the support of donations and grants. Thank you to everyone that has supported our over the Years.

Over the past 2 days some of the Wessex team have attended the Surf Life Saving GB new Asset Commander course meaning they can now lead teams into water and flood rescue.

Also on the course we're members from Berkshire Lowland Search & Rescue - BLSAR and Surrey Search & Rescue who are both Lowland Rescue teams. This joint learning and training makes us a lot more resilient.

Great work from all that attended the course.
