International Care Network

International Care Network ICN is based in the Bournemouth area and is a charity which provides a warm welcome for members of the refugee and migrant communities.

Our Christian charity believes that we should “welcome the stranger” and works to help refugees and migrants from all faiths and backgrounds to rebuild their lives in the UK. We help them to overcome obstacles in settling here. We help them by giving them advice and support on immigration, employment and in finding accommodation. In addition, we offer English classes for those who are not able to

access mainstream education. A particular recent focus has been supporting women and children through home visits and homework clubs.

We’re finishing up Volunteer Week with one final amazing stat - an incredible 23% of volunteers at ICN are also service users themselves, or have lived experience as a refugee.

ICN has a board of trustees who are all volunteers - today one of the trustees shares his from own experience and why he felt it was so important to get involved.

We want to celebrate the extraordinary contributions of these volunteers who are going the extra mile to help others who are going something they know about first-hand.

Volunteers are making a huge impact every day at ICN - thank you to all of you for your kindness, dedication and willingness to help! 💙

We asked some of the people who access our services what impact volunteers have had on their lives. Their messages show that even a small gesture can make a huge difference.

At ICN, our volunteers give an average of two hours a week. That may not sound like very much time, but those hours add up to something bigger than we can imagine. When time is offered to a cause people care about, even just two hours can have a meaningful impact on the community around them and help you learn from others.

At ICN, those two hours given might mean:

👶 A woman can attend an English class while her child is cared for in our crèche.
🖊️ Someone who is illiterate in their own language can learn to spell their name in English.
📖 Parents are supported to better help their children with homework, reading, or additional learning.
🗣️ A conversation group can run, helping to reduce isolation and build community
❓ Someone can access a drop‑in advice service in a welcoming, non‑judgemental space.
👂 Someone feels heard, supported, and safe to share their experience with others.
🙋 Someone who was previously isolated gets involved and connected into community and starts volunteering themselves.

Individually, these moments may feel small, but together they create a ripple effect across individuals, families, and communities.

We all know how easily a couple of hours can disappear! ⏰

Ben tells us that he likes to carve out time to volunteer for ICN - even a two hours a week can make a big difference - and it is always time well spent.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers at ICN who have been regularly giving up a couple of hours a week! If you would like to get involved, find out more at ICN.org.uk

As a small organisation, you might wonder how we continue to meet growing levels of need across our services.

The answer is simple: our volunteers 💙

Over the past year, our volunteer community has grown from 35 to 73 people in just one year, with each person consistently giving their time and showing up to support our community.

Their impact reaches far beyond the hours they give, it’s felt in every connection made.

🙌 It’s Volunteer Week! 🙌

Where would we be without the amazing volunteers who give their time, care and energy to make the world a bit better?

This week, we are taking some time to celebrate the volunteers who support ICN - and hopefully to inspire some new volunteers to join the adventure!

To our fabulous volunteer team: thank you so much for all you do- we appreciate you!
