Hertfordshire County Council has formally asked the Government to disclose all the evidence for their decision to create four unitary councils in Hertfordshire as part of Local Government Reorganisation.

Following the motion agreed by Full Council in July, the Council has taken independent legal advice and now issued a Pre-Action Protocol letter to seek explanations and information before deciding whether any legal challenge should be pursued.

A programme of tree works is due to commence in the Bovingdon/Kings Langley area at the end of August. We have received a letter from the Tree Officer at Hertfordshire County Council which details the areas in Bovingdon affected by these works.

We have been informed that many of the trees being “felled” are not large mature trees. They are young and densely packed ash trees, or already dead elm trees etc. that have regenerated there themselves. So while the initial removal of these may be apparent at first, these verges will rapidly soften and look healthier and the trees that remain will have more space to grow into their proper size and form.

The felling operations in Bovingdon will mostly be limited to Chesham Road, Box Lane and Hempstead Road.

If you have any queries or concerns regarding these works, please contact the Tree Officer at Hertfordshire County Council on 0300 123 4047.

With temperatures rising, our refuse crews are starting bin collections an hour earlier than usual from Wednesday 12 August.

Please make sure your wheelie bins are presented for collection by 5.45am on your collection day.

This temporary change will help us keep collections running as smoothly as possible during the hot weather and will continue until Friday 14 August.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

We're carrying out our summer vegetation maintenance, but could your hedge do with a summer trim too?

Overgrown hedges and vegetation can make pavements difficult to use, especially for people with wheelchairs, mobility scooters, pushchairs or visual impairments.

Before you reach for the trimmers, remember to check carefully for any nesting birds and avoid disturbing active nests.

Not able to manage the work yourself? Why not check in with a neighbour, friend or family member who may be able to help?

And if you don't have the right equipment, local Tool Libraries and community sheds can be a great place to borrow tools, learn new skills and get support.

Small trim – big impact – help the neighbourhood.

Residents living in Dacorum's unparished areas in and around Hemel Hempstead, including parts of Nash Mills, Bourne End and Felden, are invited to comment on draft recommendations for the borough's Community Governance Review.

The proposals include:
✅ Creating a new Hemel Hempstead Parish Council
✅ Creating a new Bourne End and Felden parish ward
✅ Creating separate Apsley and Corner Hall parish wards
✅ Extending the Nash Mills Parish Council boundary
✅ Introducing a proposed annual parish council tax charge of £24.97 for a Band D household

Consultation closes: 18 September 2026

If you live in an affected area, now is your chance to review the proposals and have your say before final recommendations are considered later this year.

Dacorum will become part of the new North West Hertfordshire Council following the government’s announcement on the future of Hertfordshire’s councils as part of its Local Government Reorganisation programme.

From April 2028, the existing 11 county, district and borough councils across Hertfordshire will be replaced by four unitary authorities.

Nothing is changing for now; the services we deliver will continue as normal. Behind the scenes, we will be working closely with the other Hertfordshire councils to lay the groundwork for the new authorities. We will share further updates over the coming weeks and months as more details are confirmed.
