Crime, Coffee and Cake with Liz Mistry

Liz Mistry, Scottish and Yorkshire crime author, moved to West Yorkshire in the late 1980s. Her gritty crime fiction police procedural novels set in Bradford – DI Gus McGuire series and her DS Nikki Parekh series – embrace the city she describes as ‘Warm, Rich and Fearless’ whilst exploring the darkness that lurks beneath.

🌟 Story Writing Competition 🌟

Calling all 7 to 11 year olds, it is that time of year again!

Settle Stories is running their Children's Story Competition 2026.

This year's theme is "What I Love".

children are invited to write a story of no more than 500 words about something their character truly cares for.

It could be a place, a person, or a much-loved object

Entry is free, and every child who takes part receives a participation certificate.

The winning story will be recorded and performed live by professional storyteller Sita Brand, and streamed to schools across the country as part of Settle Stories' popular series.

There's also a £100 book token up for grabs, which feels rather fitting for a library audience.

Entries can be emailed to [email protected] or posted to Settle Stories, The Joinery, Dawson's Court, Settle, Yorkshire, BD23 9ED

The deadline for entries is Monday 15 June 2026 at 5pm.
