Windrush Day is a moment to honour the arrival and legacy of the Windrush Generation, but also to reflect on what has changed, and what hasn’t.

The Windrush scandal exposed the harm caused by the UK’s hostile environment policies, where access to housing, healthcare, work, and basic security can be restricted through immigration systems. Those structures still exist today, and in many ways have become more restrictive.

Ideas of who is “deserving” of belonging continue to shape immigration policy, often tied to race, class, and history. The impact is still being felt by Windrush families, as well as by many people navigating the system today.

Alongside this, there is a long history of resistance. Black communities in the UK have consistently organised, challenged injustice, and demanded recognition and rights, refusing exclusion.

Windrush is not only history. It is ongoing. And so is the demand for justice, dignity, and change. Solidarity means seeing those connections, and acting on them.

We continue to call on the Government to fund free independent legal support for all Windrush victims and their impacted family members. - Sign this petition:

🌙🧧✨ Ramadan Mubarak | A Blessed Lent | Happy Chinese New Year.

From all of us at the Race Equality Network, we extend our warmest wishes to everyone observing and celebrating this meaningful season.

As communities across the world mark Ramadan, Lent, and the Chinese New Year, we are reminded of the shared values that connect us, reflection, renewal, resilience, generosity, and hope.

At the Race Equality Network, we remain committed to championing equality, amplifying voices, and building spaces where everyone feels seen, valued, and supported.

Today, as a community we remembered six million Jews and the millions of others murdered and targeted by the N**i regime.

Those include Roma and Sinti people, those with disabilities ,LGBTQ+ individuals, political dissidents and others persecuted for who they are.

We hold in our hearts the victims of other genocides before and since, reminding us that the consequences of hatred, dehumanisation and silence are not confined to one time or place.

Remembrance is a shared responsibility. By learning from history and standing together against all forms of hate, we commit to protecting human dignity and preventing such atrocities from ever happening again.

As we begin to slow down for the festive period, we would like to take a moment to extend our heartfelt thanks to all our members, partners and stakeholders for their continued support provided to Race Equality Network (REN) throughout the year.

At a time of increasing division, uncertainty, and racism, we are immensely proud of all that we have achieved together this year.

2025 has been a hugely significant year for REN, as we reached the major milestone of celebrating our 25th anniversary. This achievement reaffirms just how vital our work is in building the capacity of grassroots organisations and tackling the systemic racism and inequality faced by Global Majority communities across Bradford and beyond.

Please note our office will be closed from tomorrow and reopening on 5th January 2026.
