🛟Today is the start of Drowning Prevention Week 13-20 June and today we’re sharing the Royal Live Saving Society’s Water Safety Code.

The code says:

Whenever you are around water:
✋Stop and think

In an emergency:

Big changes ahead for Bradford’s city centre

Work is now underway to safely remove and preserve the iconic William Mitchell mural and the historic 1251 Market Cross from The Kirkgate Shopping Centre Bradford as we prepare for the next phase of the Bradford City Village transformation.

The Kirkgate Shopping Centre Bradford will close on 18 June, with demolition beginning later this year to make way for 400 new homes, new green spaces and a vibrant new city‑centre neighbourhood.

As we say goodbye to this familiar landmark, we’re inviting you to share your memories
📮 Drop them into the collection box at Darley Street Market
📧 Or email them to [email protected]

Your stories will help create a special memory book celebrating Kirkgate’s place in Bradford’s history.

Bradford City Village will eventually deliver up to 1,000 modern homes, new public spaces and opportunities for independent traders, with work on the Oastler Centre site also starting this summer.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of the great Bradford born artist David Hockney, one of the district’s most well-loved sons.

He was one of the most inspirational artists of the modern era and leaves a lasting legacy, not only in the fantastic artwork displayed in galleries across the district and around the world, but also in the incredible support he gave to our year as UK City of Culture 2025.

He painted the things he loved, and people will continue to be inspired by his artwork and his passion for life for many years to come.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, and all who knew and loved him.

⚽ 🏆Who's ready for the World Cup?

Our Visit Bradford team has created a page dedicated to bringing football fans all the information about the venues large and small where you can watch the matches: www.visitbradford.com

Keighley Town Council are holding a World Cup Fun Day at our Keighley Market on Saturday 13 June. There'll be live music, face painting, craft workshops including bunting making, giant games and a penalty shoot‑out challenge.

Bradford Live is hosting the district’s biggest World Cup fan zone showing every England game live on its big screen for free. There will be pre-match and half-time entertainment with a DJ and live band, as well as American street food and bars.

Our Bradford Markets Darley Street Kitchen, will be staying open later on Tuesday 14, Wednesday 15 and Sunday 19 July, to show the two semi-finals and the final, which all kick off at 8pm UK time. There are wider celebrations planned if England progresses to these stages of the tournament.

There will also be a Afro-English Cultural Festival on Tuesday 23 June in the Courtyard from 6pm. The event, organised by ReachArts Network CIC , will include stalls, music performances, workshops, family activities and much more, all culminating in the England vs Ghana match being shown live on the big screen. Tickets must be booked in advance for this free, family-friendly event with great vibes and community spirit. We’re working with wedding venues across the district to help put an end to the distress caused by late‑night fireworks. Many venues already have a no‑fireworks policy, and we’re encouraging more couples to celebrate in ways that don’t disturb residents, pets, or wildlife or cause distress.

The Government is launching a national consultation on tougher fireworks laws, something we fully support.
