Remembering David Hockney ❤️

We are deeply saddened by the news of David Hockney's passing.

One of the most influential artists of the modern era and a leader in the 1960s pop art movement, David Hockney was born in Bradford and went on to become one of the world's most celebrated and recognisable artists.

We have been incredibly proud to showcase David Hockney's work here at the National Science and Media Museum. The above image is of Hockney creating one of his celebrated photographic joiners featuring the museum, a work that was most recently displayed in our exhibition David Hockney: Pieced Together in January 2025.

A pioneering artist who continually embraced new ways of seeing and making images, Hockney leaves behind an extraordinary legacy that continues to inspire audiences in Bradford and around the world.

A closer look at installing three iconic costumes from the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, now on display in Setting the Stage: 70 Years of the Eurovision Song Contest at the National Science and Media Museum. ✨

From Julia Sanina’s electric blue jumpsuit inspired by 1970s glam rock, to Alesha Dixon’s gold sunburst Grand Final dress and Graham Norton’s hand-embroidered jacket by Ukrainian designers LuVi, these standout pieces reveal the craftsmanship and detail behind the contest’s most memorable looks.

During installation, our teams spotted details you won’t see on display, including hidden pockets in Alesha Dixon’s dress and intricate embroidery stitched into the lining of Graham Norton’s jacket. Swipe through the carousel to see them. 👀

With thanks to National Museums Liverpool for loaning these items from their collections for us to display.
