We’re delighted to share that 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗺 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗼𝗿𝘆 at the recent 𝗬𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀!

Three representatives attended the awards event and couldn’t wait to share the fantastic news with the gardening club volunteers the very next day.

Its been a lovely busy week in the City Centre!

The Parks team have replanted the large planter outside of Virgin Money with lavender

The Parks team have also put some new plants in to fill gaps - please stick to the footpaths and don't walk on them 🎋🌾🥀🪻

WOW!! The Carpet of Flowers in full swing. Sorry that you can't see it from the clock tower, but it's looking fantastic already. Please come down to see it, it really is amazing 🌺🌸🌼

The Fire Memorial has been cleaned and repointed. The stone has been glowing in the lovely light we've had this last few days

There's still plenty of colour in the Park!

To come: Some replacement of blockwork on Channing Way and repointing in City Park. Repairs to walls and decking

Bradford City Fire Memorial update

Jonny, the Stone Mason Contractor, and his team will be on site from Tuesday to clean and maintain our beloved Fire Memorial. They will start by spraying the stonework and cobbles with a friendly liquid cleaning agent which needs 24 hours to work, then clean that off. They will remove badly installed flexible pointing, any loose pointing and any vegetation. They will then repoint in specialist mortar to make good. They will not touch the plaque or the sculpture, only the stonework.

You may remember Jonny and his team did a fantastic job last year with all of our other memorial stones and I have every faith in the teams capabilities to sympathetically restore our Memorial.

Jonny did the repairs a few years ago following mindless petty vandalism, and when Jockel, the artist, visited for the last time, he was so impressed with his work that he wrote to Jonny to thank him. Jockel also loved the patina on the sculpture and plaque, and said it was so much more loved than its sister sculpture, so we know we are doing right by him🥲

I always love Heritage Open Days! The most quirky of places open their doors for just one quick peak inside! I'm planning on going to the Cathedral and possibly the Low Moor Explosion, which happened on 21 August 1916 .....

"The alarm sounded at the Central Fire Station in Nelson Street, Bradford, at 2.33pm, and eighteen men led by Chief Officer Scott set off in their newly-acquired fire engine, 'Hayhurst', which was named after the former Chief Constable"

Chief Officer Scott was a maternal great uncle of one of the City Park Team and all his medals in are displayed Civic area of City Hall
