Today, we recognise Anil Singh, one of the people who helped turn an idea into Manningham Housing Association.

Before MHA was established, Anil led the research into the housing conditions of Asian families in Manningham. The findings highlighted severe overcrowding and the need for homes that better reflected the needs of local families.

That research helped provide the foundation for MHA.

Anil later became one of the organisation’s early Chief Executives, helping to shape MHA during its formative years and challenging the system to secure fairer funding for larger family homes.

💛 From research to leadership, Anil’s contribution helped shape the MHA story from the very beginning.

For 40 years, Manningham Housing Association has been shaped by its people, rooted in its communities and driven by progress.

From our beginnings in 1986, responding to local housing need in Manningham, to providing around 1,400 homes across Bradford and Keighley today, our journey has always been about more than housing.

This anniversary film celebrates the residents, colleagues, Board members, volunteers, partners and community leaders who have helped shape MHA over the past four decades.

40 Years of MHA | 30 Days of Stories

Today, we hear from Faz Haq, who has been part of Manningham Housing Association’s journey from the very beginning.

Faz served MHA for 30 years as a board member, including 15 years as vice chair and one year as chair, witnessing the organisation grow from just two properties into the MHA we know today.

He reflects on those early days in 1986, when a small community initiative, a £3,000 grant, and a determination to improve housing for Bradford’s diverse communities helped create something truly special.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MANNINGHAM

As we begin a very special September for Manningham Housing Association, we’re celebrating 40 years of people, place and progress by sharing the stories of those who helped shape MHA into the organisation it is today.

We start with Shaukat Ahmed, one of MHA’s founder members, reflecting on the early days of Manningham Housing Association, the needs of the community at the time, and the vision that brought people together to create something that would make a lasting difference.

From those early beginnings to the homes, services and communities we support today, MHA’s story has always been about people.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing more memories, voices and moments from across our 40-year journey.

The TSMs consist of 12 satisfaction measures that tenants are surveyed on annually and 10 measures generated from management information. Registered providers, such as Manningham, are required to publish the results of these measures on an annual basis.

What a fantastic Summer Mela 2026!

Yesterday, MHA residents came together at Manningham Sports Centre for an evening packed with food, music, entertainment, and activities for the whole family—including henna, face painting, balloon modelling, a bouncy castle, and much more.

But what made the evening particularly special was the wonderful community spirit.

We’ve already received some lovely feedback, with one attendee describing the event as “brilliant” and sharing how grateful and happy families felt to be part of the MHA community. Another described it as a “brilliant evening” and praised the range of activities, the food, and everyone who helped make it happen.

We were also delighted to celebrate the winners of our gardening competition and welcome community organisations including Hollings Youth Association, who joined us to showcase their work and raise awareness about the dangers of nitrous oxide.

A huge thank you to our residents, colleagues, community partners, activity providers, and everyone who volunteered their time—from entertaining families to helping serve food.

These events are about much more than having fun. They’re about bringing people together, strengthening connections, and celebrating the communities we are proud to serve.

We’re proud to share an important new article from Barrington Billings, former Chair of Manningham Housing Association and current Chair of BME National, published today in Inside Housing.

In “A national anti-racism strategy is long overdue”, Barrington makes a powerful case for a more cohesive, national approach to tackling racial inequality — one that is grounded in evidence, shaped by lived experience and focused on achieving meaningful, measurable change.
For housing organisations like ours, this is an especially important conversation. We see first-hand the vital role that housing providers, community organisations and BME-led organisations can play in understanding inequalities, amplifying the voices of the communities we serve and helping to shape better policy and services.

We are incredibly proud of Barrington’s continued contribution to the housing sector and his work ensuring that the experiences of BME communities and organisations are represented in national conversations.
