Minimum Age 12 years old & in Year 8. 158 (Braintree & District) Squadron is a part of the Royal Air Force Air Cadet Organisation (RAFAC ACO), which comprises of the Air Training Corps and the Royal Air Force section of the Combined Cadet Force (CCF). The organisation is a voluntary, military, uniformed youth organisation, sponsored by the R

oyal Air Force, which has nearly 60,000 members including cadets aged 13-20, volunteer staff and civilian committee members.

🥁 Band Practice 🥁
Recently, our band attended an extra parade night to practice their skills. Using the skills they learnt from North Sector Band Practice, they practiced the songs on syllabus, and worked on marching as a group.

They have been working hard so that they will be ready for Wing Parade and Remembrance in the next few months!

🚀🚶‍♂️Camp Viking II 🚶‍♂️🚀

Last Month, 3 of our cadets attended Central & East Region Air Cadets Camp Viking. The camp consisted of various streams of training, our Cadets were luckily to attend the Drill & Cerimonial and Gold space streams!

🌌 Gold Space 🌌
Cpl Gleeson completed his space course, achieving his Gold Space Qualification, Method of Instruction, and became a Space Instructor! We are looking forward to him teaching our cadets what he learnt.

Cpl Gleeson had to say this after the camp. "I am proud to have completed my Gold space award which has qualified me as a cadet space instructor. Throughout the course I had to present and teach blue and Bronze space lessons to cadet for which I obtained the highest marks on the course. Additionally, we learnt about Orbital mechanics, SATCOM systems and UK space power to further our practical applications of how we teach."

🚶‍♂️Drill & Ceremonial🚶‍♀️
Sgt Owen and Cdt Bennett both completed their Drill & Ceremonial course, where they learnt, and perfected, static drill, marching drill, sword drill, and rifle drill! They finished the camp off by demonstrating their new skills with a impressive drill sequence!

Cdt Bennett had this to say after the camp. "The camp was excellent and very enjoyable as we were granted the experience to participate in rifle and sword drill. The best part was showing off our newly learnt rifle drill on final parade whilst doing a continuity sequence"

✈️Solo gliding success✈️
Last month Sergeant Guntrip completed his gliding scholarship with 611 Volunteer Gliding Squadron where, with wonderful weather on his side, he was able to undertake his first solo flight! Check out the video of his impressive landing.

The Squadron is very proud of him and this amazing achievement, even if we are all a little envious of his new flying wings!

Sgt Guntrip had this to say after his solo flight. "I am very proud to have successfully completed my Gliding Scholarship, and officially earned my Silver Wings, at 611 VGS. The course was challenging, but incredibly rewarding, teaching me so much about flying. For me, the highlight of the course would be completing my first solo flight. Being in the sky on your own is an unreal experience and a moment I will always remember."

💬 Debate Night💬

We recently ran a debate night, where the cadets got involved in debating many different topics, presenting some impressive points!

The debates allowed the Cadets to practice their public speaking and persuasive communication, along with thinking on their feet and spotting flaws in their opponents arguments.

Congratulations to B Flight for presenting the best cases and being the overall winners!
