🎄 Christmas is coming to The Vyne...

Behind every festive display is a team of dedicated volunteers bringing this year's Christmas offer, Twelve Days of Christmas, to life.

For months they've been sewing, painting, cutting, gluing and embroidering an array of handmade decorations, transforming a beloved festive classic into charming displays inspired by the song's colourful cast of characters.

Here's a glimpse of the creativity and craftsmanship taking shape behind the scenes ahead of the opening on 21 November 2026. ✨

Something adorable this way comes! 🧙🎃

If cute autumn décor is your weakness, you've been warned.

From pumpkin-laden mice and ghostly dogs to wizard mice, winking bats and mummy foxes, The Vyne's gift shop is now home to a delightfully quirky cast of seasonal characters.

Lovingly handcrafted by skilled artisans in Nepal, each felt decoration has its own unique personality and makes a charming addition to autumn displays, Halloween decorating or seasonal gifting.

Most of these decorations are £9.50, with the cheeky little bat available for £6. 🦇

🎃 A seasonal favourite has arrived in The Vyne's Brewhouse tea-room.

Our Spiced Pumpkin Cake (£4.50) combines butternut squash with warming ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and mixed spice, finished with a generous layer of caramel frosting.

For October only, each slice comes topped with a charming white chocolate ghost decoration. 👻

The ghost-topped slices tend to disappear quickly, so be sure to grab one while you can!

Apple lovers, this one's for you. 🍎

October's Scone of the Month is an 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗲 (£3.25), freshly baked in The Vyne's Brewhouse tea-room.

Packed with diced Bramley apple, oats and a hint of cinnamon, it's everything you love about a comforting autumn pudding in scone form.

For an extra-indulgent treat, ask the team about accompaniments such as whipped custard (+£1.50) and apple compote (+£1.10), subject to availability.

In The Vyne’s gardens, set off on a fun-filled interactive trail through the magical world of Tom Fletcher's Who's In Your Book? series. Search for your favourite characters, solve playful challenges, and discover how every page can become an unforgettable adventure.

For an easy family day out, pack the picnic and head to The Vyne - a Tudor palace turned 17th-century family home just 6 miles from Junction 6 of the M3. Free parking for everyone, picnics welcome. National Trust members and under fives go free. Free event, normal admission applies.

Together with Gardener Emma, some of our fabulous volunteers recently had a go at scything in The Vyne's orchard.

As we continue to explore more sustainable approaches to gardening, traditional skills such as scything can play an important role in managing parts of the landscape while reducing the need for machinery. Thank you to everyone who took part.

Talk: Who cut up The Vyne's cathedral book?

Why would anyone cut up a rare seventeenth-century book?

As part of The Vyne's exhibition Taste, Design and the Georgian Gentleman, this talk investigates a collection gem with an intriguing tale to tell.

Published in 1658, Sir William Dugdale's The History of St Paul's Cathedral in London is one of the most important records of Old St Paul's Cathedral before its destruction in the Great Fire of London.

Yet at some point in its history, sections of it were cut out.

Why was this extraordinary piece of history cut apart? Who was responsible? And how does this curious act connect to the story of The Vyne and one of its most influential owners?

Join us as we unravel the clues and reveal the surprising story behind this historic treasure.

After the talk, there will be time for questions and an opportunity to see the vandalised volume on display in the house.
