We want your views on the future of library services in Brampton.

As part of our Libraries Fit for the Future programme, we've identified Brampton Library for review because of a combination of service, property, sustainability, accessibility and strategic factors.

We're asking for feedback on the following options:

👉Option 1 – Retain Brampton Library in current building

👉Option 2 – Co-locate within Community Centre or shared public building in Brampton

👉Option 3 – Co-locate within the Moot Hall

📆The consultation ends on Wednesday 25 November.

ROAD CLOSURE - BOOTHBY - 26th OCTOBER for 3 DAYS

Information from Cumberland Council

A temporary road closure has been put in place to allow Fibrus to carry out utility works which are expected to commence 26th October 2026 and anticipated to take 3 days to complete.

Location: C1025, Boothby, Near Brampton from a point approx. 230m south west of its junction with the U1056, extending in a south westerly direction for approx. 370m.

Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the C1025, A6071, Moatside, Union Lane, Greenfield Lane, Longtown Road, Brampton, C1013 and C1029 and a way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times

BUS SERVICES ACROSS CUMBRIA

Cumberland Council is asking residents to take part in the next phase of the Cumbria Bus Reform Pilot Study.

The engagement will explore how bus services could better connect people to jobs, education, healthcare and other essential services while making travel more affordable and accessible.

TELEPHONE FRAUD - INFORMATION FROM CUMBRIA POLICE

Police in Cumbria are urging people to check with vulnerable and older family and friends, following a number of reported frauds in recent days.

People were targeted by phone in Cumbria this weekend by fraudsters falsely claiming to be from Amazon.

They were told that a payment for an item was pending on their account. The victim had not ordered the item. The fraudster aimed to persuade them to share personal information and identity documents, such as a passport or driving licence.

In some cases they were asked to buy gift cards and send the fraudsters the codes once the panel on the back was scratched off. Others were told to download apps, including those for remote access software, which have given those carrying out the fraud access to their devices.

The police are asking people to please check with vulnerable and older family members, friends and neighbours to make sure they have not been a victim of this type of fraud or been approached by potential fraudsters.

Please remind them not to be rushed into doing anything and to always remember: Amazon, banks, the police and organisations such as the Financial Conduct Authority would NEVER:

Ask for your bank account details or PIN number over the phone.
Ask you to withdraw or transfer money.
Ask you to download anything onto your device.
Ask you to lie to your bank.
Ask you to purchase gift cards or other high value items such as mobile phones, jewellery or gold bullion.
Ask you to hand over any of the above to a courier or taxi or post them to any address.

Should people have doubts about the person they are speaking with, they should put the phone down.

As fraudsters have been known to keep the line open after a victim has hung up, they should either wait five minutes or use a different phone to contact the bank or the police using a trusted number.

They must never use a number provided to them by the caller.

The non-urgent number for police is 101. Dialling 159 from any phone will allow you to say the name of the bank you wish to speak to, and you will be put through.

Please note the upcoming works to car parks in Brampton

We'll soon be carrying out some resurfacing works at our car parks in Brampton.

To ensure the safety of our workforce and the general public, the car parks will be closed while works take place. Vehicle access to the car parks will not be available between 8am and 4pm.

The works are scheduled to begin on Monday 5 October and will be undertaken in three phases:

👉Brampton Central - October 5 and October 6

👉Union Lane Car Park 1 – October 7 and October 8

👉Union Lane Car Park 2 – October 9 and October 12

💚 You have the most wonderful people living in Brampton 💚

We recently received this lovely message from a German couple, who visited Brampton while walking Hadrian’s Wall this summer.

They stayed overnight at the Scotch Arms Mews B&B/Holiday Home and, the following morning, discovered that roadworks meant their bus wouldn’t be able to pick them up from the town centre.

They said they must have looked a little lost, because suddenly five different people including a postlady, came to their aid from five different directions, all taking the time to try and help. 😊

And the story gets even better…the postlady somehow managed to contact the bus driver and persuaded him to turn around and pick them up in the town. 🚌❤️

The couple described this as a wonderful, unexpected experience of human kindness and civility from people in the town, and asked if we could find a way to submit their greetings and deepest thanks to the people of Brampton, hence this post.

So, from all of us, a huge thank you to those five kind-hearted people who went out of their way to help two visitors who were simply trying to find their way back to Hadrian’s Wall.

And to the visitors, thank you for taking the time to share your story with us. We’re delighted that Brampton left such a positive impression, and we very much hope you’ll come back and visit us again! 🌿🥾

We’ll also be showing the plans for the proposed 30MPH speed limits on Capon Tree Road and Newcastle Road. Cumberland Council has extended the consultation period until 14th September, so come along, find out more and share your views.

North Cumberland Speed Limit Review – Your Views Matter

📢 Have your say on a proposed change to the speed limit on Newcastle Road, Brampton

We’ve received an update from Cumberland Council regarding the ongoing North Cumberland Speed Limit Review.

Following further requests received during the consultation period, Cumberland Council has added an additional proposal for a 40mph speed limit buffer on the A6071 Newcastle Road, Brampton.

The proposal is shown on the attached plan and, importantly, the informal consultation period has now been extended until 14 September 2026 to give local residents, businesses and other stakeholders an opportunity to consider and comment on the additional proposal.
