A patchwork of pines, heathland and broadleaves provide the ideal setting for a great day out, and a welcome refuge for a rich variety of animal and plant life. It’s scale, along with its history, complex geology and diversity of soils, gives a unique varied and important woodland. As custodians we want to ensure the trees and woodlands of Thetford Forest are vibrant, healthy, vigorous and thrivin
g as a result of our management not only for today but for generations to come. To achieve this we are committed to:
- Increase the range and genetic diversity of our trees - aiming for the right tree in the right place for the right reason.
- Reduce the impact of pests and diseases on our existing and newly planted trees
- Continue to improve our operational planning and how we implement Forestry Standards.
- Improve how we communicate our Forest Operations to the community that live, work and play in our shared forest. Our woodlands are more than just trees and Thetford Forest is of national and international importance for wildlife. A stronghold, and even last refuge, for some rare and declining species. To ensure the Forest is diverse, vibrant and wild enough to support a range of species we are committed to:
- Identifying and improving habitats of conservation importance so they can be made bigger, better and more joined up.
- Reduce the spread and impact of invasive species and where necessary use species reintroduction's to deliver positive changes to the environment. Read more at www.forestryengland.uk/OurSharedForest
