Four of our firefighters have entered this year's Mission Unbreakable 10km commando challenge on 4th October to raise money for two vitally important causes โ€“ The Fire Fighters Charity and North Devon Hospice.
Every penny raised will be hugely appreciated and help spur on our team as they undertake this tough challenge designed by 24 Commando Royal Engineer Regiment based at RMB Chivenor. Please consider sponsoring our team if you can. Thank you.๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿ”ฅ Please, help us out!

Weโ€™ve just been called to Croyde after a disposable BBQ was put into a bin while it was still hot.

Fortunately, a passer-by spotted what was happening and managed to extinguish it with water and sand before we arrived. It could very easily have been a different story.

After everything thatโ€™s been shared over the last few days about the extreme fire risk, we really need everyone to stop and think.

Itโ€™s hot, itโ€™s incredibly dry and emergency services are already busy. Something as simple as a hot BBQ thrown into a bin can quickly become another completely avoidable emergency.

๐Ÿ™ Please think about what youโ€™re doing and help us keep our communities, countryside and emergency crews safe.

๐Ÿ“ธ The photo weโ€™ve shared is not from tonightโ€™s incident. Itโ€™s from the major fire at Baggy Point in 2022. A stark reminder of just how much damage a disposable BBQ can cause when things go wrong.

Enjoy North Devon, just donโ€™t take the risk with fire. ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿš’

Smelling smoke around North Devon today?

Weโ€™re getting reports of a smell of smoke across North Devon, but there are currently no known incidents locally. Itโ€™s believed the smoke is being carried across from the ongoing wildfire in South Wales.

Thereโ€™s no need to call us just for the smell, but if you can see smoke, flames or other signs of a fire, please call 999.

Thanks for staying alert and helping us keep our crews available for where theyโ€™re needed. ๐Ÿš’

๐Ÿ”ฅ Help us out this weekend! ๐Ÿš’

Itโ€™s hot, dry and already incredibly busy for emergency services.

With the Government wildfire warning now issued, weโ€™re asking everyone locally to do their bit to help keep our countryside, communities and emergency crews safe ๐Ÿ’š

Please donโ€™t light BBQs, campfires or anything with a naked flame in our countryside, dunes or on our beaches. One small fire can spread incredibly quickly in these conditions.

Enjoy the sunshine and everything North Devon has to offer, just leave the BBQ at home, take your rubbish with you and help us avoid the preventable fires.

๐ŸŒฟ Protect our countryside. Protect our emergency crews. Help us keep Braunton safe ๐Ÿ’š

Please share and help us spread the message. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿš’

๐ŸŒ˜ Heading out to watch the eclipse tonight? ๐Ÿ”ญโœจ

Weโ€™re all looking forward to getting outside and enjoying it too, but after such a long, hot and dry spell, our countryside is extremely vulnerable to fire.

So if youโ€™re heading to the beach, countryside or finding the perfect viewing spot, please help us out:

๐Ÿฅช Pack a picnic, not a BBQ โ€“ even a small spark or hot disposable BBQ can start a wildfire in these conditions.

๐Ÿšญ Take extra care with ci******es and dispose of them properly.

๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ Take your rubbish home โ€“ particularly glass, which can be hazardous when left in the countryside.

๐Ÿ”ฅ No campfires or open flames, however tempting it might be.

๐Ÿ“ž If you spot a fire, get somewhere safe and call 999.

Wildfires can spread incredibly quickly and tie up fire crews and resources across the county. A little bit of care tonight can make a big difference.

Picnic packed. Eclipse glasses ready. BBQ left at home. ๐Ÿ‘

Enjoy the eclipse, North Devon and help us keep our beautiful countryside safe. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿš’

๐Ÿ”ฅ Campfires Can Become Wildfires ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Last night, firefighters from Braunton and Barnstaple Fire Stations attended a fire on West Hill, Braunton, believed to have started from a campfire.

Crews worked into the early hours to bring the fire under control before returning this morning to extinguish remaining hotspots and assess the damage.

During the incident, firefighters found evidence that multiple aerosol cans had been thrown onto the fire. When exposed to heat, aerosols can explode violently, sending metal fragments flying and significantly increasing the risk to anyone nearby, including members of the public and emergency responders.

The current spell of hot, dry weather has left our countryside extremely vulnerable. It only takes a single campfire or discarded ember for a fire to spread rapidly through dry grass, undergrowth and woodland, with devastating consequences for wildlife, the environment and nearby properties.

Parents and carers: with the school holidays now underway, please take a few moments to speak with your children and teenagers about the dangers of lighting campfires or playing with fire outdoors. What may seem harmless can quickly become a major incident, tying up emergency resources and putting lives at risk.

We know the vast majority of people enjoy the countryside responsibly, and with the support of our community we can help prevent incidents like this from happening again.

๐Ÿš’ Please donโ€™t light campfires or disposable barbecues in the countryside during this prolonged dry spell. If you discover a fire, move to a place of safety and call 999 immediately.

๐Ÿ”ฅ A quick community reminder from Braunton Fire Station

With the recent spell of warm, dry weather, the risk of grass and heathland fires is much higher than normal. Even a small fire can spread surprisingly quickly and put people, wildlife and property at risk ๐Ÿ”ฅ

We have been made aware of a small fire that is believed to have been deliberately started in a local outdoor area. Thankfully it didnโ€™t develop into anything more serious, but it does serve as a timely reminder of how easily fires can take hold in the current conditions.

If youโ€™re a parent or guardian, weโ€™d really appreciate you taking a few minutes to chat with your children about the dangers of lighting fires outdoors. A simple conversation now could prevent a much more serious incident in the future.

Weโ€™re fortunate to have a community that looks out for one another, and we thank everyone who continues to help keep our community safe, especially during this prolonged dry spell ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ’š

โ˜€๏ธ A hot week ahead across North Devon, and we know many of you will be making the most of the beaches, countryside, moorland and coastal walks. Please enjoy the sunshine safely ๐Ÿ˜Ž

From Braunton Burrows and Exmoor to our beaches, open fields and beauty spots, weโ€™re lucky to have some incredible places right on our doorstep, letโ€™s help protect them ๐ŸŒฟโค๏ธ

A few simple things really do make a difference:

๐Ÿฅช Leave the BBQ at home and pack a picnic instead
๐Ÿ”ฅ No campfires or bonfires in the countryside or on the beach
๐Ÿšญ Fully extinguish and dispose of ci******es properly
๐Ÿงด Take all litter home with you, especially glass bottles
๐Ÿš— Avoid parking on dry grass where hot exhausts can start fires

A wildfire can spread rapidly, tie up emergency services, damage wildlife habitats and put local communities at risk.

If you see a fire, call 999 immediately and use the what3words app to share your location.

Have a safe week and enjoy the sunshine responsibly โ˜€๏ธ
