Devon D-Day at Saunton Beach

In 1943–44, over 10,000 American GIs descended on the village of Braunton and trained for the D-Day landings amongst the dunes of Saunton Beach… On Saturday June 3rd, 2017, Saunton D-Day is stepping back in time to bring history alive. Car parking is available in Saunton Beach Car Park - standard fees apply. Please arrive early to guarantee a space. Last year, the D-Day event featured a convoy of

vehicles from the Military Vehicle Trust. This year, the focus will be on living history - an opportunity to see and experience what life was like for the GIs training for D-Day. Centred around a GI camp in the dunes it will focus on a ‘day in the life’ programme of interactive activities, a unique field cinema experience and a beach landing exercise by re-enactment group, First Wave 44. Vintage stalls, FATC historical briefings, 1940s evening entertainment, bar + BBQ on the beach and the spirit of 1944 will prevail…
