TRIBUTE | The family of an 18-year-old man who sadly died in Glasbury on Tuesday 30 June, have paid tribute to him.

Umar Dumbuya, from London, sadly died after entering the River Wye while taking part in a Duke of Edinburgh expedition in Glasbury, Powys.

In a tribute, his family said: “We are heartbroken by the loss of our son, brother, and grandson. There are no words that can describe the pain we are feeling as a family.

Umar was a loving boy and will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.

Umar loved spending time playing basketball, attending the gym and time with friends and family.

“We will always remember Umar for his kindness, warmth and sense of humour. His death has left a devastating hole in our family, and we now ask for privacy as we take time to grieve.”

❗Scam Warning ❗

Residents in the Powys area should remain alert to courier fraud. Dyfed Powys Police have received numerous calls from Powys residents in relation to this scam.

Courier fraud occurs when criminals impersonate police officers or bank officials to trick you into handing over cash, bank cards, or expensive items. Scammers call claiming an emergency, then send an in-person "courier" to your home to collect the items.

In these situations, they may instruct you not to discuss the matter with anyone else and assure you that you'll get your money back. They might ask you to lie to your bank or bypass security measures, ignore such instructions and follow your bank's warnings.

Police will NEVER:
❌ Ask you to withdraw cash, send money or hand over your bank cards
❌ Send a courier to your address to collect cash, bank cards or other valuable goods
❌ Contact you out of the blue and ask you to participate in an investigation that requires you to withdraw money from your bank

If you are concerned someone you know is a victim or fraud, or if you think you may be, please report it to us via:
