By the time this is published, we’ll be 70 days since Plaid Cymru won an historic victory in the Senedd election, and 64 days since our First Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth formed his government.
The reason we’re counting this in days? Because one of the pledges made by the new government was to repay people’s trust in electing a Plaid Cymru as quickly as possible.
Even before the election, Plaid Cymru laid out the plan for the first 100 days of government, and we were both proud to stand on a platform of a party that meant business from Day 1.
While the business of tackling the many issues that need improving takes longer than 100 days – indeed, you’ll be familiar with the saying ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’ – there are things the Plaid Cymru Government has done immediately to make a real difference.
Within 50 days, this government had set the wheels in motion to tackle the problems in the NHS, improve transport, and give a better start to our children, to name but 3 areas of action.
For our NHS, work has already started to ensure we’re ready to meet winter pressures, and we have started work on planning the roll out of Surgical Hubs – something that will help reduce long waiting times and bring treatment closer to home.
In terms of getting Wales moving, we've announced a North to South Express coach service which will cut journey times by an hour, and negotiations have already begun with UK Government to secure fairer funding for our rail network, so we can achieve a better service for passengers.
And for our children, free school meals are being expanded to secondary schools, and the roll out of more funded childcare has begun. Giving our children the best start in life helps us all because child poverty quite literally affects the future health, well-being and prosperity of our nation.
This is a government that is committed to turning promise into immediate action for the people of Wales, with a clear focus on tackling the challenges facing all our communities.
