☀️ Hot Weather Warning ☀️

Please stay safe when visiting our park during periods of hot weather by following these key points:

🔥 Follow our NO BBQ or open fire rule. The ground is dry and fire spreads quickly. Wildfire risk is high.
💦 Be water aware. Supervise children and dogs near ponds, rivers and lakes and remember NO swimming is allowed.
🐶 Dogs can get heatstroke very quickly. Walking them in the very early morning or late evening is best.
🗑️ Take your rubbish home with you. At busy periods our bins can become full. Please pack an extra bag and make sure any litter is disposed of responsibly. Take it home if our bins are full.

If and when you do visit, remember to bring lots of water and stay out of the sun during the hottest periods of the day.

We are open from 8.00am to 9.30pm (in June and July).

We've got lots of scenic spots to discover at Thorndon. From quiet picnic benches under the shade of the trees, to sun-soaked open spaces at Thorndon South. There’s somewhere for everyone to enjoy.

And don’t forget, the Thorndon Nature Discovery Centre - EWT café and shop is open every day.

Enjoy quiet offroad tracks that takes you and your family away from busy roads whilst taking in the magical surroundings of our deep dark woods.🌳

Head to Trailnet CIC, a Community Interest Company (CIC) based on site, that’s committed to helping people of all ages and abilities to cycle.

Trailnet offers bike hire so you can pedal around the park at your own pace or take part in one of their group rides. 🚲

It’s and we’re saying a massive THANK YOU to everyone that supports our country park 👏🏻 👍🏻

Our volunteers carry out all kinds of jobs all year round, helping to keep the park welcoming for visitors and native wildlife.

Recent images below show some of our volunteers helping to remove sycamore from our woodlands and wood pastures.
A fast growing, invasive species, it's important to keep it at bay!

Volunteering has all kinds of benefits for those taking part too, boosting mental, social and physical wellbeing.

The weather is warming up! 😃 ☀️

If you are thinking about visiting us, please remember to follow our no BBQ rule.

As the summer approaches, the grasslands become dry, which means there is an increased risk of fire and damage. ⚠️

Picnics, on the other hand, are always welcome! 🥪 🧺 🍓

We also politely ask you to take your litter home and supervise children and keep dogs on leads near ponds, rivers, lakes and wildlife. Remember, swimming is prohibited.
