🕯 IN MEMORY

South Wales Police Federation today remembers PC Ian Godfrey, who died on this day 27 years ago.

Ian was killed when the patrol car in which he was a passenger was involved in an accident in Clydach, Swansea on 20 June 1999. The 30-year-old had been a police officer for 18 months.

Phil Walker, South Wales Police Federation chair, said: “Today we will pause and remember PC Ian Godfrey on the sad anniversary of his death.

“We will reflect on his service for the Force and its communities, and we will hold in our thoughts his family, friends, and colleagues.”

🫵 HAVE YOUR SAY

South Wales Police Federation members are being encouraged to help provide a clearer picture of the realities of policing by taking part in the National Workforce and Wellbeing Survey.

The survey, coordinated through Oscar Kilo, the National Police Wellbeing Service, gathers anonymous feedback on issues including wellbeing, workload, leadership, workplace culture and support.

The findings help inform national policy and local initiatives which aim to improve police welfare and wellbeing.

The survey is open now and closes on 22 June.

South Wales Police Federation chair Phil Walker said: “Our members regularly tell us about the pressures they face, and this survey is a chance for us to highlight those experiences to policing leaders and decision makers.

“Every response helps paint a more accurate picture of what life in policing is really like.

“Whether your concerns relate to workload, wellbeing, resources or workplace culture, this is your chance to be heard.

“The stronger the response rate, the stronger the message to those decision makers.”

💐 IN MEMORY

A South Wales Police sergeant who died on this day 25 years ago has been remembered by South Wales Police Federation.

Sergeant Mark Woodward, 30, was fatally injured in a motorbike accident as he travelled to duty on 14 June 2002.

Federation branch chair Phil Walker said: “Like all too many officers, Mark went to work that day committed to protecting the public but never returned home to his loved ones.

“Today we remember him and his service to the people of South Wales.

“And our thoughts are with his family, friends, and former colleagues as they mark this anniversary.”

Thanks also to the South Wales Police Force and Chief Constable Jeremy Vaughan KPM, Police and Crime Commissioner Emma Wools, and fellow Welsh branches of the Police Federation: Gwent, Dyfed Powys and North Wales.
