🍎 Coming soon: Free School Meals for more secondary school pupils! 🎒

From the 2026-2027 school year, eligible pupils in Years 7 and 8 will receive free school meals because of a change to Universal Credit thresholds.

📅 Applications will open in the first week of September, with the new provision launching immediately afterwards.

⚠️ Please note: This is not a full roll-out of universal free school meals across all secondary school year groups. The new offer is specifically for eligible pupils in Years 7 and 8 only.

A shady spot in one of our parks is the perfect place to relax in the summer months 🌿☀️

Why not pack a picnic, meet up with friends and make a day of it?

But when it’s time to head home, do one last check and make sure your litter goes in the bin, or if the bins are full take it home! 🌳💚

We’re supporting Keep Wales Tidy - Cadwch Gymru'n Daclus to encourage everyone to this summer.

Have your say on Active Travel in Bridgend County Borough 🚶‍♀️🚲

Residents are invited to attend upcoming engagement sessions to view the current Active Travel Network Map and share feedback that will help shape the future of walking, wheeling and cycling across Bridgend County Borough.

Active travel includes walking, wheeling, and cycling for everyday journeys, whether that's travelling to work, school, shops, leisure facilities, or public transport links.

We want to create an active travel network that makes walking, wheeling, and cycling easier, safer and more accessible for everyone. By doing so, we can improve health and wellbeing while strengthening connections between our towns and villages.📍

📍 Maesteg Sports Centre
📅 2 September 2026 | 🕟 16:30–19:30

Your views can help us understand where improvements are needed and shape a better-connected active travel network for the future.

If you plan on attending any of the above events, and require them to be delivered in Welsh, please inform us with plenty of notice at [email protected] so that Welsh translation can be arranged.

Our new Bridgend Works team has been busy clearing spaces across the county borough! Here are just a few recent jobs the team has carried out, tidying up green areas and making spaces more accessible.

The new team will carry out various jobs to support our existing teams - including grass cutting, jet washing, cleaning up fly-tipping, litter picking and more. This is in addition to our day-to-day work, meaning we can carry out more jobs and tackle issues quickly.

Funding from the Pride in Place Impact Fund has helped Brackla Community Centre make essential repairs ⚒️

Brackla Community Centre has used its funding to replace soffits and fascias which had fallen into a state of disrepair and were beginning to pose a potential safety concern.

The improvements will help to protect the community facility and ensure it can continue to provide a community space for residents, groups, and visitors across Brackla.

👏 Well done to all involved in securing this funding!
