🌞 Beautiful morning to be out talking to people on the doorsteps in Pyle.

We had lots of positive feedback including about our local schools and the dropped kerb improvements taking place here.

Thanks to residents who raised the issue of potholes on Pyle Inn Way - Jane and I have reported that today.

🕛 Stays open until midnight, in a three-month trial

⏱️ Keeps three hours free, with no price rise

🌙 Is free after 6pm

✅ Good news for Bridgend's children with additional learning needs.

Welsh Labour Senedd Members held the Plaid Cymru Government to account and pushed them from £40m to £60m extra for ALN across Wales. That means around £3m for Bridgend, going straight into our schools and support services.

It's welcome news, but it's not the end solution. There's still lots more work to do to make sure every child in Bridgend gets the support they need and deserve.

Bridgend Labour will keep pushing. 💪

🚲 Let's get the Garw Valley Cycle Path reopened!

Cllr Martyn Jones brought a motion to Council with his fellow Garw Valley Labour councillors, Cllr Heather Griffiths and Cllr Maxine Lewis, and the Labour Group. 🌹

🚧 2.5km between Llangeinor and Pontycymmer has been closed by Network Rail, cutting off a key route for residents and visitors.

🤝 Labour's motion calls on the UK Government, Welsh Government, The Crown Estate and Network Rail to work with the council to reopen it.

✅ The motion passed.
❌ But four Bridgend County Independents councillors abstained: Freya Bletsoe, Steven Bletsoe, Mark John and Steven Easterbrook.

When it mattered, they didn't back the Garw Valley. 🤷

Labour will keep pushing until the path is open again. 💪

Good news for local businesses and the night time economy! We are delighted to be able to trial extended hours and keep the free 3 hour parking available too. We hope this will have a positive impact !

🚗 Changes coming to Rhiw multi-storey car park! 🌙

From 1 November 2026, the Rhiw car park in Bridgend town centre will remain open until midnight as part of a three-month trial, helping to support the town’s night-time economy. 🌃✨

The changes will also include:

🎟️ A new pay and display system, replacing pay-on-exit
🅿️ The existing three hours free parking offer will remain- a ticket will still be required but it will show as no charge
💷 No increase to parking tariffs
🌙 Free parking after 6pm, with no ticket required
📱 RingGo will replace PayByPhone as our online parking payment provider
💳 Cash and card options to also remain available
📹 Additional CCTV cameras will be introduced
👮 Security staff will be present during the extended opening hours

The trial will allow us to monitor how the car park is being used during the additional evening hours and consider future plans.

Everyone in danger at sea deserves help. And those who answer the call deserve our support.

Following her visit to Porthcawl RNLI alongside the Mayor of Ploudalmézeau, Porthcawl’s French twin town, Councillor Heidi Bennett, Mayor of Bridgend County Borough, pays tribute to the bravery and dedication of its volunteers.

More than 40 volunteers from our communities give their time to this vital lifesaving service, with crews putting their own lives at risk to bring others home safely.

Their work is driven by a simple principle: saving lives, whoever is in need. We’re proud to stand behind the RNLI and everyone who makes that work possible.

Supporting veterans across Bridgend County Borough.

Council Leader Cllr John Spanswick and Armed Forces Champion Cllr Martyn Jones met local veterans’ groups and charities last week to discuss the council’s support and hear how it can be improved.

From housing and employment support to help for service families, our Labour-led council is working to deliver on the Armed Forces Covenant, re-signed in 2023. Listening to those who have served is central to that work.

Thank you to everyone who joined the discussion, and to the organisations supporting our armed forces community throughout the year.
