Somerset Brick and Tile Museum The Somerset Brick and Tile Museum is based in Bridgwater, and is dedicated to the local industry of brick and tile making. Open Tuesdays 10.00 am to 4.00pm

The Brick & Tile Museum is dedicated to the local industry of brick and tile making, one of the many labour-intensive coal based industries once found in Somerset. The core of the museum is the only remaining tile kiln in Bridgwater. It used to be one of six at the former Barham Brothers’ Yard at East Quay. It was last fired in 1965, the year that the works closed. Demonstrated inside the museum a

re the methods and processes involved in making the impressive variety of bricks, tiles, terracotta plaques and other wares that create the ‘look’ of Somerset towns like Bridgwater, Burnham and Glastonbury. The kiln is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, saved from dereliction in the 1990s when it became a museum. The Brick & Tile Museum is part of The South West Heritage Trust an independent charity committed to protecting and celebrating Somerset and Devon’s rich heritage. For more information:

Inspired by PLAY at The Museum of Somerset, we explored our collections across Somerset to discover how people have played, created and connected throughout history.

From ancient board games and childhood toys to music, gardening and Somerset skittles, these objects reveal that the desire to play is timeless.

We finished our summer activities with a flourish.

Ella was back on Saturday then Jcurtisart was with us for a printing session yesterday.

Today was our last activity day of the summer with some pot painting.

Most of the glass melts have been fired, just the last few to do but they look amazing so far.

Thank you to all our visitors for coming along and supporting us.

Lots of adult workshops available to book for some post summer holiday therapy and the family activities are also available for October half term.

All pots from Ella’s session on 28th July, all beehives from 30th July and 4th Aug, and all items from the young adults session on 6th Aug are ready to collect.

We’re open Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th this coming week 10-4. Normally just Tuesdays.

We can only keep items for a max of 4 months. We do still have items from Feb and Easter which will need to go soon. Please collect if you haven’t already.

There's still spaces available to bring your family and paint a lovely keepsake. These sessions are for creativity, quality time, and making memories together.
