I met Peter Minall on Monday he took part in the 1985 reenactment by the Sealed Knot.
With his friend Rod Bryant they presented the Battle of Sedgemoor Exhibition a Cavalry helmet. It is an authentic Victorian replica of the type used in 1685.
Rod was a frequent visitor with fond memories of school trips from Westover School Bridgwater. I am sure our school visitors will enjoy trying on. Rod managed to find someone to sympathetically repair the leather cheek guards.

Sorry I was not prepared for a ceremony. I was still in my boiler suit straight from the Carnival shed.
Thank you Peter Minall these are his words.
Battle of Sedgemoor Visitors Centre visit, in the company of my colleague Rod Bryant of Exeter.
Rod recently obtained a replica triple face guard, Lobster Pot helmet, which he decided to donate to the Visitor Centre for inclusion into their handling exhibition and to display. Below is a photo of Rod presenting the helmet to Peter Evans.
Pete also provided some back ground information as he was a re enactor Pikeman in 1985.

Welcome a new visitor to our Memorial.
A so far unknown artist has added a rebel Scythe man to oversee our stones. (I thought it was an AI photo when I first looked)
He is very well made and is securely fixed to the fence tubes.
Good news the new trees are looking good.

One of Tauntons Primary Schools are bringing 60 children to the Visitors Centre next week. We will welcome them with a trip to the Memorial and Battle Field and show them the exhibits with a hands on session with some weapons of the day. Plus a tour of our beautiful St Marys Church that became a prison.

Just an update on the Battle of Sedgemoor Memorial. The two trees made it to 100 years old (planted 1927 as rootballed saplings). They sadly died and became dangerous so they had to be removed. We are exploring ideas for replacements. We have salvaged the iron work that made the cages protecting the trees in hope that they can be reused with the new trees.
