Every year for 10 days in September, Heritage Open Days brings people together to celebrate their heritage, community and history. It offers the public a chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – and it’s all FREE.

We have an amazing programme of local events including tours of the Old Vicarage Bridgwater, Bridgwater Arts Centre, Wembdon Road Cemetery and St. Mary's Church Bridgwater, plus events hosted by Bridgwater History & Civic Society and an exclusive exhibition by Blake Museum .

Every day, millions of people across the UK are making a difference by volunteering. Each year, outstanding examples of this work are celebrated through the King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS).

The window for applying for KAVS – the highest award for voluntary groups – has just opened. The Royal award recognises outstanding work by volunteer groups to benefit their local communities.

Anyone who knows the work of a group well can make a nomination through a straightforward process between September 1st and December 1st.

The KAVS website 👉 https://kavs.dcms.gov.uk/ provides clear instructions and guidelines on how to apply.

We're thrilled to announce that Somerset Film at The Engine Room's short film Brick by Brick will be returning to the big screen at our Outdoor Cinema on Saturday 12th September at St Matthews Field🍿🎬

The film was made by a professional cast and crew working alongside the people who live and work in Bridgwater and stars over 50 local extras.

Catch a screening at 1:00pm or 4:00pm and support this fantastic local production.

August bank holiday bin collections

A reminder that there will be no recycling or rubbish collections on Bank Holiday Monday 31 August.
This means all collections that week will take place one day later than usual. If your usual collection is on Friday, it will move to Saturday 5 September.
Please put your bins, boxes and bags out on your revised collection day, or the night before.

There will be no changes to recycling site opening hours or days.

Our operatives have been carrying out maintenance works at Cross Rifles Roundabout.

While today's rain is certainly welcome, the prolonged period of hot, dry weather has taken its toll on grass and planting across many of our green spaces, leaving some areas looking dry and stressed.

Our team has been removing dead growth, weeding, and refreshing the beds to give the remaining plants the best opportunity to recover when wetter weather returns.
