Thank you, Charlie, and all the Board members for bringing together such a strong and positive Neighbourhood Board for West Bridlington.

It's encouraging to see the commitment and dedication being shown to uplift the town and make the most of this fantastic opportunity. I know how much hard work goes on behind the scenes, not only from the Board members but also from the team at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, whose efforts are helping to turn these ambitions into reality.

The Pride in Place funding presents a once-in-a-generation opportunity for West Bridlington, and it's great to see local people, businesses, community groups and young people being represented around the table.

Thank you all for your hard work and commitment to making Bridlington an even better place to live, work and visit. I look forward to seeing the positive impact this programme will have on our community.

I have just watched the Hawkstone Farmers' Choir on Britain's Got Talent, and what an incredible performance. I am in tears. But, I wanted to share why the tears came so freely.

Today marks 43 years since I lost my dad to su***de.

My dad was a miner and a part-time firefighter. He saw things that no one should have to see, and I believe those experiences stayed with him for the rest of his life. In those days, mental health was rarely talked about. People were expected to carry on, no matter what they were going through.

Watching the choir tonight reminded me why their message is so important. Mental health matters. Talking matters. Supporting one another matters.

Forty-three years on, we have come a long way, but there is still so much more to do. We need better access to mental health support, proper funding for services, and help that is available to people of all ages, from young people facing pressures today to older generations who may have spent a lifetime suffering in silence.

No one should have to struggle alone because support isn't available when they need it. Whether you are a farmer, miner, firefighter, office worker, young person, parent or pensioner, mental health challenges can affect anyone.

The farming community, like many others, faces unique pressures, and the Hawkstone Farmers' Choir are helping to shine a light on an issue that deserves far more attention.

Tonight, I'm remembering my dad and may friends I've lost. I am thinking of everyone who is carrying a burden they feel unable to share. Please talk to someone. Reach out. There is strength in asking for help.

Thank you, Hawkstone Farmers' Choir, for a truly moving performance and for helping keep these important conversations alive.

Justice for Henry Nowak

An 18-year-old student lost his life in a horrific stabbing in Southampton.

Many people believe this case raises serious questions about policing, public safety, and whether the law is always applied equally and fairly.

The British Sikh community has rightly condemned this crime and made clear that violence has no place in their faith or values.
Victims deserve protection. The police must be free to follow the evidence wherever it leads. And the law must apply equally to everyone.

We need tougher action on knife crime, greater accountability, and a justice system that commands public confidence.

No more two-tier policing.

We are fortunate to have so many dedicated and professional police officers serving communities across the country. I am proud to call many of them friends. In particular, Humberside Police consistently demonstrate the highest standards of public service, professionalism, and commitment to keeping our communities safe. Their officers work tirelessly, often in difficult circumstances, and deserve recognition for the vital work they do.

At the same time, we must ensure that equality, fairness, and accountability remain at the heart of policing, so that public confidence continues to be strengthened and the law is applied equally to everyone.

Justice for Henry.

Update on Bridlington Care Unit

Charlie Dewhirst MP has highlighted fantastic news for Bridlington.
The proposed closure of the Bridlington Care Unit, which was due to take place on Monday 1 June, has now been suspended.

This follows strong pressure from Charlie, and a petition signed by over 5,000 residents, showing just how much our community cares about protecting local services.

Alongside this, the Bridlington Health Forum has played an important role in raising concerns and ensuring local voices were heard.

✅ The Trust has now confirmed it will pause the closure, review the plans, and carry out proper engagement to work out the best way forward.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this campaign, it shows what we can achieve together.

🗣️ We will continue listening, supporting you, and working to secure the right outcome for Bridlington.

UPDATE: Pinfold Lane

After being contacted by numerous residents regarding ongoing issues on Pinfold Lane, and after speaking with Charlie Dewhirst MP and East Riding of Yorkshire Council, I wanted to provide an update. following the concerns raised by local residents.

🚧 Construction issues & road safety
Developers are being actively monitored and have already been made to take action where problems (like mud on the roads) were identified.

🌳 Planning concerns
The Council is investigating specific sites and working with developers to address issues such as missing landscaping.

🚶‍♀️ Pedestrian safety improvements
A new segregated footpath along Pinfold Lane will begin on the 1st of June, improving safety for residents.

🚗 Traffic & congestion
A key road link to Scarborough Road is still not open, the Council is pushing the developer for a clear timeline, as this should help reduce traffic pressure.

🚓 Speeding concerns
No recorded injury accidents means no traffic calming is planned at present, but speeding enforcement sits with the police. Residents are encouraged to report incidents or concerns via Operation Snap, or by calling 111 or 999 if an emergency.

🏡 Road adoption
Progress is being made to bring roads at Pinfold Park up to adoptable standard, though this will take time.

I know how frustrating this situation has been for residents. Please be assured we are continuing to press for improvements and will keep pushing for action where needed.

If you are affected or have further concerns, please do get in touch.

Our beautiful East Riding coastline is truly magical, and we must do everything we can to keep it that way for generations to come.

🌊💙
I’m absolutely delighted to see Hornsea and Withernsea once again awarded prestigious Blue Flag status, alongside Seaside Awards for Bridlington North, Bridlington South and Wilsthorpe. These awards are recognition of the hard work that goes into protecting and improving our beaches, and it’s wonderful to see them receiving the recognition they deserve.

Bridlington’s beaches, in particular, are somewhere I am always drawn to. It’s a place where I can sit, relax, reflect and take time to decompress. There’s something truly special about our coastline and the sense of peace it brings.
But while we celebrate this achievement, we must also continue holding Yorkshire Water to account and keep pushing for cleaner seas and waterways. Protecting water quality, reducing pollution and tackling rubbish and waste must remain a priority if we are to preserve the natural beauty of our coast.

I know that our policy holder, Cllr Paul West, and the Leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Cllr Anne Handley, are just as passionate as I am about keeping our beaches clean, safe and welcoming for residents and visitors alike.

As your prospective Candidate I will ensure our beaches are given the respect that they deserve.

We are incredibly lucky to call this coastline home, and together we must continue working to protect it. 🌊✨

🚨 Residents – Please Take a Moment to Read & Act 🚨

I'm sharing an important video from Caimen Kinder and Ryan Witchell regarding a proposed planning variation that could directly impact our community.

📍 Planning Ref: 26/00814/STVAR
This proposal would allow construction traffic for the new 450-home Gleeson development to use Darwin Road during Phase 1.

This doesn’t just affect Darwin Road — it will also impact Bempton Lane, surrounding streets, Old Town, and Central Ward boundary areas.

❗ Why this matters:

- Our current road network is already under pressure and considered inadequate
- Increased construction traffic raises serious safety and congestion concerns
- The original approval included a purpose-built roundabout on Bempton Lane to handle site traffic safely
- That roundabout (costing approx. £1.5 million) was designed specifically to avoid using residential roads like Darwin Road

Allowing this change would undermine the original planning agreement without improving infrastructure or safety.

🗣️ Have your say – it matters
We strongly encourage all residents to review the proposal and submit objections if you share these concerns.

Let’s make sure our community’s voice is heard and protect the safety of our roads and residents.
