TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF SOUTH STREET, BRIDPORT FOR BRIDPORT HAT FESTIVAL

DORSET COUNCIL has made an Order under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to prohibit the use of the following roads by cyclists, horse riders and all mechanically propelled vehicles, except mobility scooters and powered wheelchairs in class 2 and 3, those taking part in the event and emergency vehicles, to facilitate a public event on the highway.

On Saturday 05 September 2026 between 0700 and 1600.
The effect of this Order will be:
[1] To impose a temporary road closure on South Street, Bridport between its junction with West Street and its junction with Gundry Lane.
The alternative route for diverted traffic will be via: East Street - A35 - West Bay Road - South Street

Did you catch this piece on ITN last night? It shows what a huge difference this scheme is making to wheelchair users.

We are looking for more volunteers in particular to help with getting the Mobi floating wheelchair in and out the water (strong pairs of hands are needed to get the chair up the incline). We would also like more volunteers on our rota with strong sea swimming experience/ swimming qualification. It is an adhoc commitment (in summer, when sea conditions allow) and our volunteers love their involvement. It is such a positive experience and everyone is so proud West Bay has this offer.
