๐Ÿš’ Tonightโ€™s Training โ€“ Breathing Apparatus

Tonightโ€™s training focused on exchanging air between Breathing Apparatus (BA) wearers โ€” a vital skill for dealing with BA emergencies where a firefighter may lose their own air supply and require supplementary air from a colleague.

With no gloves, full visibility and plenty of time, the task is relatively straightforward. But add BA gloves, a blindfold and the need to hold your breath while disconnecting your own air supply and connecting to your buddyโ€™s, and the challenge changes considerably!

And yesโ€ฆ trying to carry out a serious BA emergency drill while wearing a SpongeBob SquarePants blindfold certainly added an unexpected level of professionalism to the exercise! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿงฝ๐Ÿ‘€

The exercise is designed to replicate the pressure and reduced visibility that can be experienced during a real BA emergency. Staying calm, communicating and following the correct procedure are absolutely vital.

Another valuable training session for the crew, helping ensure weโ€™re prepared to support each other when it matters most. ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ’จ

Every piece of litter taken home, every safe choice around water, every barbecue used responsibly and every fire prevented helps protect our countryside, wildlife and the emergency services that are there when you need them most.

Thank you to everyone who's done their bit this summer. Let's continue looking after Dorset and Wiltshire together.

If you see our vehicles out and about, and think they're looking a bit grubby, there's a very good reason - with most of our Service area under a hosepipe ban, we've cancelled routine vehicle washing until further notice.

Roadworthiness will of course be maintained, and we will continue to train as usual, just without spraying water.

Essential water usage at fires will continue, with the support of our water companies.

We're doing our bit - are you?

๐Ÿš’ P1 was mobilised at 15:20 to a grass fire in Littlemoor, alongside crews from Weymouth and Dorchester, with an L4T from Blandford also attending.

Crews first on scene worked quickly to bring the fire under control using hose reel jets, preventing further spread.

At 15:21, P4 was mobilised for standby duties at Dorchester Fire Station before subsequently being moved on to Portland to provide further standby cover.

Another busy afternoon for Bridport crews, supporting neighbouring stations and helping maintain fire cover across the area. ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿ“Ÿ Fire Call
๐Ÿ“† 19/8/26
๐Ÿ•ฃ 08:08

One crew from Bridport Fire Station was mobilised to reports of an unknown fire in Beaminster.

On arrival, crews located the source of the smoke and found a controlled burn taking place in close proximity to surrounding trees.

Due to the remote location, firefighters had to carry a LPP (light portable pump) and equipment to a nearby pond. Using this water source, crews extinguished the fire with one main line.

Despite the rain weโ€™ve experienced this morning, the ground and vegetation remain extremely dry and the wildfire risk is still very high.

๐Ÿšจ Government advice is clear:

There is currently a very high risk of wildfires nationally. Residents, landowners and visitors should not undertake activities that could start a fire, including using disposable BBQs, firepits, garden incinerators or fireworks.

Even a small flame can rapidly develop into a major wildfire, putting lives, homes, businesses and emergency responders at risk.

Please follow official updates and, if you see signs of a fire, call 999 immediately and ask for the Fire Service.

Stay safe and help us prevent avoidable fires. ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ๐ŸŒณ

๐Ÿ“Ÿ Multiple Fires
๐Ÿ• 01:30

Bridport crews were mobilised at 01:30 to reports of a grass verge fire in Dibdin View.

On arrival, crews located a small area of grass that appeared to have been deliberately set alight. The fire was quickly extinguished using a bucket of water.

While crews were dealing with the incident, a member of the public alerted them to another fire further along the road. Crews made their way to Rivervale, where they discovered two separate bins on fire. Both fires were extinguished using one hose reel jet.

The bins also appeared to have been deliberately set alight, so Dorset Police were contacted and quickly attended the scene to carry out further enquiries.

Once crews had completed their work, they were then mobilised back to Lulworth to continue relief duties at the large barn fire.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Deliberately setting fires is extremely dangerous. What may start as a small fire can quickly spread to buildings, vehicles or vegetation, putting people, property and firefighters at serious risk. It can also have serious consequences for those responsible.

If you have any information that may assist the police investigation, please contact Dorset Police on 101.

Alternatively, you can report information 100% anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or through their anonymous online reporting service.

Please help us keep our communities safe. ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿ“Ÿ BBQ Call โ€“ Hive Beach ๐Ÿ”ฅ

One appliance was mobilised to Hive Beach following reports of a group of people having a BBQ close to the cliff edge.

Although this was a portable BBQ rather than a disposable BBQ, crews made the decision to extinguish it to remove the risk of stray embers or the careless disposal of hot coals igniting the dry grass along the cliff edge.

While temperatures are beginning to cool, the wildfire risk remains very high.

We continue to urge everyone to:
๐Ÿšซ Avoid BBQs on public land
๐Ÿ”ฅ Do not carry out controlled burns or have bonfires
๐Ÿšฏ Dispose of all rubbish responsibly
๐Ÿšญ Make sure smoking materials are completely extinguished and disposed of safely

In these conditions, it only takes one stray ember to start a fire that can spread rapidly.

Please help us protect our countryside and coastline. ๐Ÿš’๐ŸŒฟ
