Today I’m at a residential care home delivering workplace fire safety training, including fire evacuation procedures and practical fire extinguisher awareness.

The training covers door procedures, evacuation plans, Progressive Horizontal Evacuation (PHE), and the importance of staff understanding their role during an emergency. We also cover effective communication, including the use of radios and realistic scenarios to practise clear, concise information sharing and coordination during an evacuation.

To ensure as many staff as possible can attend, two courses are being delivered today—one during the afternoon and another in the early evening—allowing night shift staff to receive training during their normal working hours.

We also spend time discussing home fire safety, helping staff stay safe when they’re away from work. Topics include smoke alarm ownership and testing, battery safety and charging, electrical safety, and other practical measures that can help prevent fires at home.

Keeping people safe doesn’t stop when the shift ends.

Today, staff from schools across the Eastbourne area attended Fire Warden training, including practical fire extinguisher use. The training took place under sunny blue skies, albeit in rather windy conditions. It was great to see such positive engagement and enthusiasm from everyone involved.

Unplug your v**e when it’s fully charged to reduce the risk of fire.

Rechargeable v**es contain batteries which can overheat when left charging for too long - and that means fire risk.

Despite a very wet start as I left Brighton early this morning, it turned into a productive morning delivering
fire safety training to staff from schools across the Eastbourne area.

Always rewarding to help build confidence and preparedness in fire safety both at work and home.

Despite setting off from Brighton early this morning in torrential rain, the weather improved considerably over here. I was delivering fire warden and fire extinguisher training to staff from number of schools in the Eastbourne area. It’s always rewarding to help improve fire safety awareness and preparedness in educational settings.,

Recently, staff from a care and support organisation attended practical fire extinguisher training as part of their ongoing fire safety programme.

The fire safety theory element was delivered online as a webinar, followed by practical extinguisher training at their site, allowing delegates to put their learning into practice in a safe and controlled environment.

This blended approach offers flexibility while ensuring staff receive both the knowledge and practical experience needed to respond appropriately in the event of a fire.

Clients can choose either webinar-based or face-to-face fire safety training, depending on what best suits their operational needs.

Fire safety education is one of the most effective ways to prevent tragedies before they happen. Initiatives like this help children understand risks, recognise dangers and know what to do if the worst occurs.

As someone who works in fire safety, I know that awareness and education can be just as important as alarms, extinguishers and emergency response. Well done to everyone involved in delivering such an important and potentially life-saving experience for young people. 👏🔥
