Cockleshell Endeavour

Cockleshell Endeavour The Cockleshell Endeavour is a resource to help recovering veterans back onto the path to recovery. Supported by the Cockleshell Endeavour team.

Using expeditions, races and adventures as a tool to plan a way forward through whatever challenges they may face, be it physical or mental health. The Cockleshell Endeavour is a project that support veterans through water based adventures. Created by former Royal Marine and ocean rower Mick Dawson, the project has seen teams take on oceans and kayak huge distances, including around the Falkland I

slands. In 2018, Mick successfully rowed the Pacific with fellow veteran Steve Sparks who, in doing so, becoming the first blind person ever to do so. On April 2nd, to mark 40 years since the Falklands War, Cockleshell Endeavour founder Mick Dawson and fellow Falklands veteran, Steve Sparkes, will start their 650-mile paddle at the Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge, Scotland, aiming to arrive at the Yomper statue in Southsea on June 14th, the exact duration of the Falklands War, 40 years ago. Mick and Steve will travel as much of the journey as possible by kayak, firstly in the sea along the west coast of Scotland, and then using the UK's canal system. They will be joined on their journey by fellow Falklands veterans, recording their stories as they go. They will also be speaking to those most affected by the war, from the families living in the Falklands at the time to those who fought alongside Mick and their families. Over the duration of this challenge, Mick, Steve and the team will stop off at towns and cities on route to meet with fellow veterans and their families to mark 40 years since the Falklands conflict including Glasgow, Manchester, Sheffield, Coventry, Bristol, Southampton and Portsmouth. Dates and venues will be released as the paddle progresses
