This Mental Health Awareness Week, our latest blog from BHT Training invites a different way of thinking when Working with Complex Emotional Needs. Trainer, Chris Barker, asks us to consider what might be happening underneath the behaviours we see.
Rather than focusing solely on risk, diagnosis, or behaviour, Chris’ blog encourages a shift towards curiosity, compassion, and context. Drawing on trauma informed and non pathologising practice, it looks at how language, labels, and service responses can either deepen distress or create the conditions for understanding, connection, and more compassionate support.
