Speak Out has been an independent advocacy charity in Brighton and Hove since 1994. We make sure that people with learning disabilities can speak up and take action about the things that matter to them. We want a world where people with learning disabilities have the same rights, choice and control over their lives as everyone else. We provide advocacy services, which means we listen to people wit

h learning disabilities and work with them to express their views, have control over their lives and be an active part of the community. There are two main aspects to our work:

1) We support people with the personal issues that affect them. We work with people to express their opinions about choices and changes in their life, including access to the services and support they need.

2) We support people to influence changes in the community that will benefit everyone with a learning disability. We enable people with a learning disability to come together to express their views when changes are being planned or might be needed to the services they use.

Speak Out would love to invite you along to our beach clean event: Our seaside, our community!

⏰ From 11am
🗺️ Near the Lawns Cafe on Hove lawns

There will be two beach cleans, one at 11:30am and one at 1:30pm. You can come to both or just one. We will also be joined by Sussex Wildlife Trust, Dolphin Project, Marine Conservation Society and the Brighton and Hove Seafront team for some fun talks about sea life and our oceans!

Snacks will be provided, but you can buy hot drinks from the cafe and also bring a packed lunch.

This event has been planned in partnership with The Carers Centre, Possability People, Speak Out, Bridging Change, supported by The Living Coast as part of the Climate for Communities project. This event is for disabled people, people with a learning disability, black and minoritised ethnic people and carers.

We had a very special visitor at the drop in today from Rumi the therapy dog! Rumi is a gorgeous Afghan Hound and he enjoyed lots of yummy treats from Speak Out members who came to the drop in today 🐶🐾🐕🦴

Speak Out held their annual Speak Out East Festival at St Georges Church on Thursday.

Lots of people with learning disabilities came along and joined in games, music, singing, arts and crafts, healthy eating information from Gloji and a new DJ project from Carousel.

Big thanks to St Georges Church for hosting the event, to the Speak Out team for helping, and especially to Audrey, Dom, and Sim for organising.

We’re so excited to announce this years Speak Out East Summer Festival!

Join us on Thursday 20th August from 11am - 1pm, at St George’s Church in Kemptown

There will be crafts, music, garden games and snacks! All are welcome!

We had a fantastic time on Friday with .eyre taking part in the wonderful Neurodiverse-city festival!

Speak Out were doing free t-shirt decorating, but there was a silent disco, face painting, cotton candy, jewellery and trinkets!

A fantastic day celebrating the neurodiverse and learning disability community of Brighton & Hove!

✊ Living our lives the way we want to ✊

We are excited to once again be taking part in the Brighton & Hove Pride - Official Page Community Parade this Saturday. 🌈

Look out for us as we march with our friends from Brighton and Hove Speak Out, Team Domenica, Heartventure and Sambalanco, a samba band from Hastings. 🥁

We will be waved off from Hove Lawns at the start of the parade around 11:00 am on Saturday morning. Please come along anywhere on the parade route to show your support! 👋
