A big thank you to the Team from Citywire who joined our Rangers last week in Preston Park. We spent the session in the Rose Garden weeding the paths, tidying up the hedges and dead heading the roses to encourage a longer flowering season. 🌹

Our City Parks Ranger Volunteers meet every Friday at sites across the city to make our parks and green spaces better for people and wildlife.

Today we cleared back an overgrown Public Right Of Way to ensure access for footpath users. πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈβ€βž‘οΈπŸšΆβ€βž‘οΈπŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈβ€βž‘οΈ

Teams from MPB spent two days at Stanmer Park helping us clear back some vegetation along paths to allow better access for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. A big thank you to them for their hard work; we love it when our volunteer groups get so stuck in and make a positive difference to our parks and green spaces. πŸ’ͺ

Spotted any pyramidal orchids this year? 🌷

Its distinct smell attracts pollinators, especially the burnet moth, helping to carry pollen to other flowers.

Well done to the team from Legal & General in Hove who braved the heavy rains at the start of June to help us remove bindweed, bramble and other weeds from the Rose Garden in Preston Park. Thank you for your hard work. 🌹🌹🌹

Yesterday, we were at another of our sheep grazing sites with volunteers from Wild Flower Conservation Society- Brighton and Beyond to help collect wildflower seeds for their work. The grassland was humming with insects.

One of the highlights was spotting the "Pride of Sussex" Round Headed Rampion. This blue flower is nationally very scarce but found in its highest densities in the chalk grassland of Sussex which is why it's our County Flower.

If you'd like a little slice of chalk grassland in your garden then head to the next Wild Flower Conservation Society- Brighton and Beyond plant sale: the last Sunday of each month at their HQ in Stanmer Park.
